Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
You Got Served has one simple priority, and if you're into the latest hip-hop dance moves, you'll get served an enjoyable 93-minute diversion. For anyone else, however, all bets are off, since this wretchedly plotted film was written by director Christopher B. Stokes as a crassly commercial vehicle for B2K, the teen group that Stokes managed while making cheap movies like this one. There's a tissue-thin romantic subplot, but mostly it's about the MTV-styled showdown between B2K (as Orange County white boys) and their black LA competitors, including members of the hip-hop group IMx. Their aggressive moves are undeniably impressive (in other words, don't try this at home unless you know a good chiropractor), but Stokes would've been better off making a straight documentary. --Jeff Shannon

Synopsis
Dedicated to the art of street dancing, 'You Got Served' features some of the most talented and prominent kids on the scene in a drama filmed in the streets of Los Angeles. The picture opens at the warehouse of Mr. Rad (Steve Harvey), where dance battles take the place of actual fighting. Elgin (Marques Houston) and David (Omarion) are childhood friends who are determined to make a splash in the world as street dancers. But when they lose a battle to a rival crew from Orange County, and when David finds himself falling in love with Elgin's pretty sister, Liyah (Jennifer Freeman), a heavy strain is put on their relationship. This is compounded when Elgin gets jacked selling drugs for a dangerous crime lord, while David was busy sipping milk shakes with Liyah. Eventually, another tragedy forces David and Elgin to put aside their differences and come together to win a contest that will make them fifty thousand dollars richer and land them in a video for hip-hop superstar Lil' Kim. Written and directed by Christopher B. Stokes, 'You Got Served' is a perfect venue to showcase the superb dancing talents of the now-defunct group B2K.
