Editorial Reviews

CD Description
After securing the "Godlike Genius" award at the 2005 NME Brats, the legendary Manchester indie band release this compilation, which presents every one of their UK singles. From their dark 1981 debut 'Ceremony', recorded shortly after the band evolved from Joy Division following the death of singerIan Curtis, to the breezy dance-rock sound of tracks from their 2005 release 'Waiting For The Sirens' Call', this is a definitive guide to a rightly revered cult band.

The definitive compilation5
OK, so the last thing we need right now is another New Order compilation! And it more than smacks of the record company cashing in on New Order's back catalogue - but most fans admit that until now, there hasn't been a decent follow-up to 1987's "Substance". Each attempt since then has been extremely flawed - the shockingly bad "best of" released in 1994 didn't contain classics such as Ceremony or Temptation, and although "Retro" contained some gems, it was far too messy & fanboy-ish for it's own good. The import-only "International" wasn't bad, but being a single disc again meant that important songs missed the tracklisting.

With "Singles" you get two discs containing every single New Order have released to date. Nothing is frustratingly omitted, and there are 7" versions of Ceremony, Temptation & Thieves Like Us available on CD for the first time. Finally, a comprehensive "best of" compilation of one of the most influential groups of the last 20+ years. Some of the greatest songs ever written are contained on these two little discs - buy it!

AT LAST - NEW ORDER PRODUCE THE GOODS5
For the New Order fan, there have been numerous 'best ofs' so far. First came the excellent 'Substance', but now several albums down the line it was obviously out of date and needed either a 'Substance 2' or better still, a proper chronological collection of all their singles in one package.

Not much to ask? You'd be surprised. First came a poor single disc 'Best of' which criminally missed off some of NO's best tracks. Then came a 'Rest of' remixes collection.....And then came a four cd boxed set which was possibly the worst 'best of' I have ever seen in my life.

Basically what I am saying is that they were all appalling, but this one is brilliant. I hardly need comment on the actual songs, needless to say a collection of all the New Order singles is not going to be anything other than fantastic.

Superb songs, superbly compiled and collected. If only more bands would follow this example.

N.O. - a singles collection exactly what it says on the tin!5
I am an avid fan of New Order and I have all there albums including 2 preivous "best of's" International & Substance and this is my favourite one. The most simple reason is that you can have all there singles up to now on one package and what fantastic singles they were! Another reason is that it has every single is in the original format. For example "Temptation" & "Confusion" were on Substance but they were versions re-recorded for that album & the only way to have the original before this album, was to of bought the vinyl 7" single over 22 years ago! which I do have, being a fan. But this is no good if I want listen to it in my car, or put on my mp3 player to listen to. I even like the new stuff which some people don't appriciate for some reason, Crystal, Here to Stay, Waiting for the sirens call, are all brilliant pop/rock/dance tunes.
