Manufacturer's Description
The new Philips GoGear HDD1620 6GB hard disk drive jukebox combines a highly stylish design with an innovative interface, as well as providing compatibility with a number of the leading online music download services. The Philips GoGear HDD1620 jukebox brings a new level of ease-of-use and practical day-to-day enjoyment of listening to MP3 and WMA* music, as well as the ability to store and view photographs. The HDD1620 features 6Gb storage enough to store up to 3000 songs or 1600 pictures. Audio, including voice memos or conversations can also be easily recorded via integrated microphones in the player, which store recordings as WAV files for playback via the headphones or on a PC.

The player features a backlit sensory touchpad and Philips’ acclaimed SuperScroll™ system for speedy and precise navigation through a music collection. Listeners can just tap or drag their finger along the touch-sensitive strip to navigate through their library of music and photos. Furthermore intuitive graphic icons, as well as album art, help illustrate menus and music tracks, while music collections are helpfully arranged into easy-to-understand categories such as Artist, Album, Genre, and Playlists. The navigation system also helps the user locate and view photos stored on the GoGear jukeboxes, enabling JPEG pictures to be shown on the large, clear and colorful backlit LCD screen. Pictures can be navigated in full screen mode or as an array of thumbnails, and can be viewed one at a time, or automatically in a slideshow accompanied by music.

Ease of use
The new Philips HDD1620 is designed to make it as easy as possible to load up the player with content quickly and without difficulty. Each GoGear player is supplied as standard with a USB cable for high-speed data transfer via USB 2.0. Philips has created a comprehensive range of optional accessories for consumers to extend and enhance their portable hard disk drive enjoyment. Battery life on the HDD1620 is up to 18 hours’ continual music playback** before recharging. These latest GoGear jukeboxes also have a speed charge capability where one hour of charging delivers 70% capacity.

PlaysforSure compatibility
To ensure maximum compatibility with the growing number of legitimate music download services, the new Philips GoGear HDD jukebox range also supports the PlaysforSure initiative from Microsoft®. PlaysforSure ensures interoperability of devices and services so that consumers can simply know their device and service will work together.

The PlaysforSure logo enables consumers to match the logos of both their playback device and preferred service. Consumers wishing to buy a Philips GoGear HDD jukebox will be easily able to check whether their preferred content supplier supports the PlaysforSure initiative, ensuring peace-of-mind that they will be able to fully enjoy downloaded content on their Philips player. A further key element of PlaysforSure is that it fully supports Windows® Media DRM10 (formerly known as Janus) digital rights management solution, which is currently employed by over 70 online services offering Windows Media content.

*Actual storage capacity will be less. Capacity is based on four minutes per song (128 kbps encoding for MP3 files and 64kbps encoding for WMA tracks) and pictures taken at 5 megapixel resolution.
**Battery life varies with usage.

    Great little player5
This is a very slick and sexy little player and so high tech with touch sensitive controls that light up with blue leds in response to even the slightest touch.

The sound is fantastic and you’re not restricted to using just Windows media player, I got this synchronizing with Real player with no problems what so ever.

You don’t really need to use the supplied CD-ROM if you don’t want to if running XP, just plug in and go, although the one really useful thing to have from the CD-ROM is the device manager which is handy for firmware updates.

Don’t make the same mistake as I made when I set this thing for auto synch, as soon as it got going started downloading all music files from my PC and was gob smacked at the speed this thing was going while downloading, believe me it’s fast. Set this cute little thing for manual synch and you can’t go wrong.

Forget about the IPOD Nano, leave that to all the lemmings out there. Only two in my book that are now the real Nano beaters, the new Sony and this super sexy and high tech little thing.

So far I’ve yet to find any fault or problems, the Philips HDD1620 is fantastic, gob smacking fast at downloading you’re music, sounds great, not restricted to using just one particular software, just use anything that can synch to portable players. So high tech with the touch sensitive controls would you want to go back to the IPOD click wheel after using this?

    A seriously good choice5
Having considered with an open mind MP3 players such as the Apple i-Pod, Creative Jukebox and SONY walkman (as well as some practically unknown brands that appealed on the price front...) I have to say that this MP3 player does it all. I've now owned this 6GB version for quite some time and I'm yet to encounter a problem.

You don't have to use any manufacturer software like i-tunes or the SONY manager, you just synchronise via Windows Media Player (version 10 supported - version 11 supported soon) the interface is an excellent touch-sensitive menu system and it plays MP3 and WMA (without changing the format). You won't be able to play those pesky DRM (licensed / digital rights) WMA files - but out of the 3,000 songs I have, this only applied to 4 tracks and it only cost 77p each to buy MP3 versions.

Importantly, it has a really good quality sound that you're unlikely to get in a cheaper player. You can even customise the EQ settings if you don't like one of the preset ones.

Shuffle mode plays songs with practically no gap inbetween and you can create an "on the go" playlist of your favorites as they appear. Loads of different ways of getting to the sounds, by album, artist, genre and most played.

I listen to music a lot and this player makes that much easier - I couldn't recommend it more.

    Very Nice4
Ive only owned this player for a very short while but so far it is great.
It is the best looking mp3 ive ever seen. it is easy to use and anyone familiar with the ipod controls will find this no problem. storage is very good and the voice recording facility is very good; the quality of recording from such a small microfone is exeptional. Also it was on my doorstep within two days of ordering so good one amazon. very good player however:
the one i have now is actually my second one because the first one i got didn't switch on or charge or do anything. that was only a small setback and must just have been the individual unit as there appears to be no problems with my new one.
In my opinion the ipod mini is dated now compared to this.
