Philips Webcam
First of all i just want to say i love this camera.
PROS
1. Outstanding low light perfromance. In a dark room this camera still manages to make it look bright.(almost like nightvision) I can only compare it to a quickcam VC, Pro 5000 and toucam 2 and its a step forward in peformance
2. Wide Throw of lens
3. Pixel plus makes the image really sharp (it does actually make a big difference not just a gimmick)
4. Smooth video not jutters (probably helped by high frame rate upto 90 per second)
5. Looks
6. Ease of use (plug and play with xp)
7. Good pickup on microphone
Cons
1. Clip is good idea but would be better if sprung to secure firmly but id does fit my laptop and flat panel so cant complain.
2. lens doesnt move left to right just up and down
3. Cost
Overall
Great webcam, best i have seen and worth the extra cash. Would be good for people wanting a webcam for a poorly lit room or at night. I use it with skype mostly and it works a dream.
Excellent buy
This webcam has excellent quality and shows crystal clear images. Very fast refresh rate. Easy to set up and bundled software included.
You won't be disappointed if you purchase this camera, it's well worth the money.
Major MSN flaws
Bought this webcam on the back of reviews here. Over the passed 5 years, I have owned 6 different webcams, so I do know the difference between good and poor quality webcams. On the positive side, the quality of the picture is very good, as good or better than the best Logitech cameras. The bad news is that for those of us who use this with instant messenging, it has a number of serious faults. The audio lacks the sophisticated echo cancellation on the Logitech 5000, so the built in microphone is virtually useless. The worst problem was discovering that this cam can crash your friend's MSN Messenger application. Connecting with a friend for a webcam conversation, his MSN application crashed everytime we tried. I connected my older Logitech webcam and it connected first time.
I tried look for support online, but discovered that Philips has no support page for this cam! The only option would be to phone Philips on a number that charges 15p/minute! This is unacceptable in this day and age.
