Editorial Reviews
Album Description
The Verve soundtrack features a top-notch collection of folk and bluegrass melodies combined with the stark beauty of Gustavo Santaolalla's (The Motorcycle Diaries) original score.
Customer Reviews
Brokeback
Like many viewers of the film, I wasn't in a hurry to forget it, and it found its way into my thoughts in the way a true classic can.
This album is a great souvenir - those gentle, yearning guitar pastorals are all intact. Also included are a bunch of country songs/Americana tracks. These are for the most part attractive and emotionally driven, but for this reviewer they have nothing of the beauty contained in the instrumental tracks. Purely a personal thing - because I'm sure they'll latch onto plenty of listeners at the right moment. And they are consistently produced, unlike those on some soundtrack albums.
Be aware that those uniquely beautiful guitar tracks make up just over twelve minutes (and make a nice programme) of a forty-five minute album. But for me, they are worth every penny because they bring the film right back.
Touching, profound, lyrical - a masterpiece
I found the film intensely moving and the soundtrack is no different. It's a pretty diverse offering - tracks that are perky and fast moving (An Angel Went Up in Flames), reflective (Riding Horses; The Wings; Brokeback Mountain 1), spritely and uplifting (It's So Easy) and then the real tear-jerkers (A Love That Will Not Grow Old; I Don't Want to Say Goodbye).
The soundtrack is every bit as lyrical, thought provoking and touching as the film was. Highly recommended.
Brilliant
I saw the film and was blown away by how beautiful the story was, and also by the touching music that accompanies it. This soundtrack contains the brilliantly sparse yet romantic score by Gustavo Santaolalla, and the beautiful "A Love That Will Never Grow Old" which won the Best Original Song at this years (2006) Golden Globes.
Also contains great upbeat tracks from Rufus Wainright and Steve Earle. If you enjoyed the movie as much as I did, add this wonderful soundtrack to your collection.
