Product Description

Like Anthony Hamilton, Angie Stone, and many of the more exciting artists carelessly lumped under the banner of "neo-soul", Raheem DeVaughn has soaked up a world of musical influences (that includes, of course, the winding history of rhythm & blues) to arrive at his debut record, THE LOVE EXPERIENCE. The son of jazz cellist Abdul Wadud, Devaughn was born into music, and that heritage is far from lost on the inherently soulful singer.
"Who" melds an instantly classic melody (that falls somewhere between 1970s Philly soul and 1980s Reid-Babyface) with a surreal synth hook and a wandering rock guitar, and is a perfect example of the alluring depth of THE LOVE EXPERIENCE. DeVaughn's vocals fit his compositions perfectly, whether it's the ultra-slow bedroom eyes of "Ask Yourself", the jazz-hop of "Guess Who Loves You More", or the Funkadelic-conjuring "Sweet Tooth". On THE LOVE EXPERIENCE, Raheem DeVaughn succeeds in combining an ear for the pop melodies of the past with a host of new ideas for soul music.

Customer Reviews

My experience of the Love experience3
After hearing 'Guess who loves you more' a few years back i was interested in Raheem, but wanted to hear more from him before buying the album. I didn't. Then i heard 'Woman' from his second album and i thought i'd take a chance with both albums.

If there were less tracks on this album i would have given it a 5 star rating. His voice is beautiful but i think its a voice you may find yourself getting bored of. However, its some of the stories that he creates in the songs that keep you listening. My favourite tracks are Believe, You and It is possible.

A soulful experience5
Can't believe this has had no reviews because it is a great album.Raheem may be accussed by some of ripping of the late, great Mr. Gaye but with the master departed someone needs to keep the sound alive! This does it really well, shades of funky Prince on a few other tracks but a solid ballad (love!) based set that deseves to be listened to with purposeful intent.A bit of a jazz feel is also thrown into the set to vary the mood just like Marvin used to do so well.
I appreciate what this album is trying to achieve and it creates what the title suggests with ample ammounts of soul.A solid purchase.

Progressive Soul4
It's fantastic that the 'neo-soul' movement continues to grow. In Raheem, I see the same qualities that put D'Angelo, Lynden, Donnie, John Legend etc. etc. where they are today. It's that insistence on pure quality - these tracks are deep, the voice amazing.........
