Editorial Reviews

CD Description
GHETTO CLASSICS is Jaheim's third effort, an album heavily rooted in traditional R&B, and also one of his strongest. Don't be misled by the "traditional" tag, however. Like most contemporary R&B, Jaheim's music is deeply influenced by hip-hop, and the layered, top-tier production from KayGee (of Naughty by Nature) gives this album a smart, sophisticated sheen that is undeniably 2006. The appearance of rapper Jadakiss on the single "Everytime I Think About Her" further updates the sound.
But the ghost of Marvin Gaye is certainly milling about GHETTO CLASSICS in the form of the smooth, sensual vibe, the album's themes (love songs about commitment, devotion, and family), and in Jaheim's expressive, well-controlled romantic croon. In short, Jaheim mixes the traditional with the contemporary in perfect measure, making his solid third release a sure bet for fans of old- and new-school soul.

Classic!5
Jaheim is one of those signers that has such a distinct voice that you always recognise of even sometimes mistake him for Teddy Pendergrass. "Ghetto Classics" comes as Jaheim's 3rd album although it's been close to 4 years since "Still Ghetto" the new CD makes up for the absense, although only 11 tracks on the actual album they're all good so doesnt matter.

1.The Chosen One - Samples the Willie Hutch classic "I Choose You" Jaheim works the sample very well he sings about how the women he's with is the one he wants to be with for the rest of his life and she's his "chosen one" 10/10

2.Everytime I See Her Face (Featuring Jadakiss) - The 1st official single. Jadakiss surprisingly doesn't ruin this not saying hes not good just Jaheim is soulful and Jads is gritty but the difference complements each other. The song it's self is very sweet Jah keeps seeing this one girl and hes just infatuated with her the beat is nice the producer named Bink has done a very good job 10/10

3.Daddy Thing - A very touching song he sings about bringing up another man's child not sure if Jah has been thru this personally but it sure does seem it.The lyrics are so heartfelt "i should have known it wouldn't last/should've known he'd take her right back" a definate album highlight 10/10

4.Forgetful - Produced by Scott Storch i actually thought this song was funny, its quite sarcastic in a way although one of the weakest tracks on the album it still stand tall basically for the lyrics just listen 7/10

5.Like A DJ - I heard this song a while back on a mixtape the beat is off the hook! seriously, the Eddie Grant sample works very well the lyrics are a metaphore for how his girl done him wrong "looks like im slippin from that peak position/drop down on your list/from/top 10 from not being on your countdown" i thought it was clever a few people don't really like this song but i think its one of his best up-tempos this could maybe single material 10/10

6.Fiend (Featuring Styles P) - Another D-Block favourite rapper Styles actually doesn't bring his best flow but it goes with the song. When i first heard this song i thought it sounded familiar and i remembered it samples The Delphonics track "I'm Sorry".I like the song but he is glorifying drug consumption which isn't very clever but i like the song 8/10

7.I Aint Never - A fan favourite which could very well end up being a single release. This is classic Jaheim beautiful string arrangement and the backing vocals on the chorus are just stunning one of the best songs on the album 10/10

8.125th - A song about meeting a girl waiting for the subway then Jah falls for her it seems like something that was left off "Still Ghetto" its a really nice song it's got quite a good message too "not all men just want a one night stand" cool song 9/10

9.Masterpiece - I really thought i was gonna love this song but i kinda dont i mean its not terrible but theres just much better songs. To me it just seems like "125th" 7/10

10.Conversation - One of the best songs i heard this song at the same time as "Like A DJ" and fell in love with it although its just over 3minutes long it definately makes an impact on the album as a whole. It's a nice mid-tempo groove about just wanting to know someone 10/10

11.Come Over - A real nice way of ending the album he really sounds like Teddy Pendergrass on this one i don't like him swearing on it though lol again, this song is very short but its a sweet song. 10/10

5.Everytime I See Her Face (Featuring Jadakiss)

Don't let 11 tracks put you off this is a solid album one of Jaheim's best and one of the best male R&B albums so far i recommend this album!

3 album, but not the bst3
Had to buy this album to add to my collection.
Another classic album by Jaheim but in my opioin this is not as strong as his first two. The best album has to be his first, but this had many good tracks.

This album see's Jaheim going back to what he does best, his album is constructed similar to his first album. Worth buying only if you are a hard core fan, otherwise listen to it before you purchase it.

Near perfect marriage of classic soul with contemporary RnB5
The chances are most of you will not have heard of Jaheim. However, over in the States he is a household name, firmly established as one of the more successful R’n’B artistes around. After all, if you can enter the US album chart at #1 (as Jaheim has already done with Ghetto Classics), that is some reputation to have.

On listening to what is his third album, it is startling to discover that he has yet to achieve success over here, for his angelic, soulful voice invites comparison with greats such as Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross and Teddy Pendergrass. That is how good his voice is, able to transform every single song into a masterful tour de force.

Saying that, Jaheim benefits from brilliant outside songwriting and production, most notably from KayGee and Eric Williams from Blackstreet. But if you produce flawlessly smooth radio-friendly grooves that lilt into the horizon and complement the artist’s vocals perfectly, you know you are doing something right. Consequently, there is not a bad track to be found on this album, with lead-off single “Everytime I Think About Her”, the lush “I Ain’t Never” and the twinkling “Daddy Thing” the crème de la crème.

To conclude, a near perfect marriage of classic soul with contemporary R’n’B. Reminiscent of Luther Vandross at his best, whilst remaining uniquely Jaheim. If this does not make Jaheim big here, I don’t know what will.
