Editorial Reviews

From the Label
Songbook IV is the fourth and final instalment of Rod’s incredibly successful, award winning and ground breaking exploration of classic "American" songs given the inimitable Stewart treatment. Last years "Stardust" gave Rod his first ever U.S. #1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned him his first two Grammy wins. In the UK it was his highest placed album in over 10 years entering at #3 and in turn becoming the best debut of the Songbook series.

CD Description
'Thanks For The Memory' is the fourth volume of Rod Stewart's 'Great American Songbook' series. Once again, Rod showcases his distinctive vocal talents on some of the greatest songs of all time, often making the songs his own in the process. Includes the tracks 'My Funny Valentine' and 'Makin' Whoopee', which is a duet with Elton John.

The One and Only Rod: Thanks For The Memories5
In a review I did for the Great American Songbook Vol. III, I entitled it something like: 'Great, But Stop At III'. That comment was a mistake of the highest order. Although I didn't believe at the time the quality of the GASV.III could ever be reached again, Rod Stewart has indeed produced another outstanding album of classic standards.

What stands out for me with this album are the duets, with some of the greatest artists of a generation: Diana Ross, Chaka Khan and Elton John. It's a recurring theme with all of the GASs that the duets are always fantastic, whether it's with Bette Midler or Cher.
The solo performances by Rod are as always amazing, and with this album there is a fantastic range of songs in terms of mood, from the joyous I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm to the downtempo My Funny Valentine.

I'd been waiting for this album for Christmas since I first heard about it in October/November time. It did not disappoint at all. Fantastic, brilliant, tremendous, out of this world are all words which would define this album perfectly. A must have item for all fans of jazz, the old standards and of course Rod Stewart.

Rod and Julie5
I would like to dedicate this review to Rod , my favourite all-time singer and to Julie , the love-of-my-life , and who I think of every time I play this...
We saw Rod in concert at London Docklands and it was a fantastic night and wonderful memory...
Rod the Mod , AND his songs remind me of my youth, my courtship , and my marraige...and JULIE as the great man says "YOUR IN MY HEART YOUR IN MY SOUL"...

Superb Rendition of The Standards5
Another superb rendition from an old campaigner. Thoroughly enjoyable! I listen to it whenever I want to relax or shed the burdens of life from my shoulders. Great background music when ensconced in some cosy-nook having dinner with one's partner.
