Well out of the woods
A really great CD, well worth the purchase if you are a fan of the Move/Roy Wood/ELO and of course Carl. Hot Cars from Roy's solo album Starting Up is a great listen as is Colourful Lady - excellent throaty delivery. There are no bads tracks on this wonderful showcase of Carl's lovely voice. Carl's cover versions of ELO tracks Midnight Blue and Steppin' Out demonstrate his wonderful voice, the latter has an amazing arrangement, simply sublime.
Beyond The Move 1973-2003
I must admit I approached this CD with reservations, it was cheap and a lot of the material was previously unreleased..... Well the first thing I can say is that I doubt anything on this cd was recorded in the 70's a trained ear will tell you it was recorded from the 80's onwards, the only down point here is that you do have to get over some of the dated production techniques of the day now and then, however if you do get over this there are many rewards with this CD.
There are a few tracks that you can do without (Miss You Nights/Never Said No Before/Someday)which are dreadful sentimental ballads, but those tracks aside you get to hear some amazing songs written by Roy Wood (and Jeff Lynne) and Carl Wayne's Incredible voice.
Ariel Pictures with it's soaring vocals is a jawdroppng performance as is Coulourful Lady and Hazel Eyes, which evokes The Move at their best, you will marvel Carl's vocals & the strength of Roy's songs, I for one thought he had lost his talent back in the late 70's and this goes some way to prove that he was still coming up with the goods
Perhaps this wasn't released at the time as Wayne had been out of action for a while recording wise and that Wood's star had waned (no pun intended) taking this in to consideration in hindsight it is better than you could possibly have imagined, Ariel Pictuires & Hazel Eyes are worth the price of the CD alone.
Carl Wayne never really amounted to much after The Move, which is a shame as his voice is a truly original and inspiring, Wood seems to have tailed off too since the late 70's, however this shows them both in a very good light and is thoroughly enjoyable.
out of this world
his voice was truly one of a kind,"NEVER SAID NO BEFORE" with mainly just piano is just mindblowing, buy it,be blown away.
