Customer Reviews

Forget the man, just listen to his voice.5
Even casual Temptations fans will be aware that he was fired from the group because of his conflicts within the group and many others around him. But he still remains an essential part of the tempt's history and also one of the greatest voices of all time. Not all of this is prime material, although it is much nearer the 'classic' temptations sound than the actual temptations albums of this period. Neither in fact is this a complete picture of Ruffin during this period, as anyone who has the 2004 Unreleased album will know. The Unreleased album is amazing stuff, particularly Dinah and Want you Back. Unfortunately that album was a limited release and goes for ridiculously high prices at the moment so it's not really for the casual listener. As for the material on show here, there are some fine moments which will please any temptations fan. Pieces of a Man and Me and Rock'n'Roll are here to stay and blood donors needed are great songs and it is surprising that his solo career did not take off the way it should have. But the real selling point is Ruffin's voice- he can take average material and make it sound completely heartfelt and soul-drenching. There's not much here for non-Ruffin fans, but if you do like the temptations you should familiarise with ruffin's post-tempts career. There are some fine moments, and at times you can just imagine that you're listening to the tempts rather than Ruffin on his own.

The TRULY great David Ruffin5
Worth the money just to have David's magnificent debut album "My Whole World Ended" on CD in it's entirety. This is Ruffin going solo at his very best, much better than his later Van McCoy influenced stuff.Anyone who loved the early Temps tunes should definitely add this to their collection. The finest voice I have EVER heard which even rescues the 1 or 2 sub-standard tracks, although they are few and far between. Brilliant!!!!
