THEY ARE BETTER THAN THIS
Queens of the stone age are one of the best live bands on the planet and anybody who has seen them will vouch for this, so its a bit disappointing that their first live release is a bit of a disappointment. Recorded over 2 nights from the Brixton Academy and Koko the dvd/cd does not give a true reflection of what Queens are really like live.
Its no secret that the 2005 tour was a pretty bad time for Josh Homme and he didn't particularly enjoy this tour. Also missing is Bassist Nick Oliveri who had been fired previous to the release of 2005s brilliant album Lullabies to Paralyze. Also not present is vocalist Mark Lanegan so his tracks are sung by Josh and don't have quite the same feel to them. Some of the songs seem rushed for instance Regular John which used to run close to 8 minutes a feature a big breakdown in the middle is now reduced to barley 5 minutes. Also theres a lot of swapping of instruments between guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen and Bassist Alain Johannes.
The real stand out material on the dvd is the old footage of the band through the years, whether it be a small club or playing to 50,000 at a festival. This material really captures what Queens are all about. The live cd is okay but doesn't compare to the bonus live cd that comes with the tour edition of Era Vulgaris.
Being that Queens are one of my favourite bands and having seen them live i felt a bit let down by this release.
Most complete live DVD ever!
This is the best concert I have ever been to and the DVD is the most complete live DVD I have seen, and I have many.
Their performances are second to none and their songs are unbeatable.
Essential for any QOTSA fan and any rock fan.
NO WAY WILL YOU REGRET BUYING THIS
The DVD is really well presented with the two gigs at Brixton Academy and KOKOs nicely interwoven. The sets see loads of songs from all four of QOTSAs albums - from Mexicola to Go With the Flow, a couple from the Desert Sessions and another surprise track about a certain "fun machine". The DVD is worth buying alone just to see Mr. Homme pick on a certain member of the audience at KOKOs. With some random other footage thrown in and bonus videos of loads of other perfomances elsewhere - this DVD is as much fun as you can have listening to true rock greats without actually being there.
Any QOTSA fan must buy this DVD - no questions asked - and as always - play it loud. Simply Awesome.
