Customer Reviews

How annoying?5
This is pretty frustrating. I confess to having resisted the allure of Eminem for some years. He struck me as an advocate of violence, a misogynist, a homophobe and general all round bad egg.

I bought this album, more than anything else, just to see what all the fuss is about.

I'd love to say I hate it and that listening confirmed all my prejudices. Sure all of the factors I list above are present, not to mention his massive ego, his supreme arrogance and his exploitation of those around him for financial gain.

Despite this, the album is a gem. Eminem is a hugely talented man, who writes with honesty and wit and his rhymes are set to absolutely superb music. There are certainly no fillers on this and it has moved me to go out and purchase the rest of his material.

It seems that the Devil really does have the best tunes.

A Master-piece5
I couldn't fault this album in any way. It's full of Eminem's best work and I don't know anyone who couldn't find something they liked on it, includng my 89 year old grandmother.

The songs on the album are flawless and range from the moving 'When I'm gone' to the funny and ironic 'Role Model' and can sometimes bring a tear to your eye,

You don't want this album, you need it.

His best work in one package... sort of.4
This two-disc set contains almost all of Eminem's singles, along with the bonus disc "Stan's Mixtape", containing seven of his most popular tracks from the Slim Shady persona.

The first disc consists of all of his UK singles other than "Business", "Mosh" and "Ass Like That", along with three new songs - the bizarre and slightly embarrassing "FACK", the fun club song "Shake That" featuring Nate Dogg, and the moving "When I'm Gone." Included as a bonus track is the excellent live performance of "Stan" with Elton John, originally recorded at the Grammys. This disc has something for everyone, although perhaps younger children would be better off with the edited version.

The second disc isn't such a success. It does well by including less widely available tracks such as "$#!* On You" featuring D12, the excellent "Renegade" with Jay-Z and the remix to Notorious B.I.G.'s "Dead Wrong", but much of the rest will be familiar to Eminem fans - the other four tracks all appeared on "The Slim Shady LP" and "The Marshall Mathers LP".

Overall this is an excellent collection, albeit familiar to those who already own the orignal albums. It is, however, an excellent way to introduce someone to his music, or to Hip Hop in general. Certain popular tracks from his albums have not been included (such as "Soldier" and "Till I Collapse"), but that is to be expected in a compilation that is essentially just his singles with a second disc that feels slightly like filler. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't have the albums, but those who do may prefer to just download the new tracks from iTunes. "When I'm Gone" is particularly worth owning.
