Value Intro To One Of The Best Voices Of Southern Soul
This collection serves as a value introduction to one of the best voices of Southern Soul, and one of the most respected, still going talents in the world of R&B. You could call her the female Al Green, since they were both signed to Hi records for the most successful parts of their careers. Hi was based in Memphis, and is a good source of good old southern soul, when you have exhausted Stax.
Ann's biggest hit and her onlt British chart entry was 'I Can't Stand The Rain', better remembered in a disco version by Eruption, and for Tina Turner's version in the 80's. Here is the original, by the lady that wrote it. Other songs here that may be better remembered for cover versions are 'Feel Like Breaking Up Someone's Home', recorded by Bette Midler, and 'I'm Gonna Tear Your Plathouse Down', which was a hit for Paul Young.
There are more comprehensive collections around, and I could whine about tracks left off here, but to be fair you get a good range of her material.
This is a fine collection of one of the best examples of 70s southern soul.
