Customer Reviews

Al Green as he hit his peak5
The 4 albums contained here show how Al Green and his producer Willie Mitchell hit on the groove that would elevate Green to Soul superstardom.

The initial sides are gritty and in some cases standard Soul fare, although there are hidden gems. Summertime, the track that ends "Green is Blues" can be seen as the forerunner of those spare aching ballad that feature on almost every album.

From "..Gets Next To You" the title track with its Blues riff, is a stand out, as is the track which was the first big single "Tired of Being Alone" - also if you thought "Light My Fire" had been done to death - think again.

With "Lets Stay Together" the groove was in place and kept right on going through to Al's best album IMHO "I'm Still in Love With You"

So many stand out tracks here, but "For The Good Times" and "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" are essential listening. In fact if you are a Soul music fan, then you must own these albums, and if you don't have them, then at 4 for around £10 then there's no excuse -BUY IT

Great bargain for four classic ablums.5
After seeing four of Al's albums for under 8 pounds i couldn't resist and wasn't dissapointed. Theres hours of smooth r 'n' b to listen to, classic's like 'lets stay together' and 'love and happiness'. Also less well known songs such as 'I'm a ram' and 'true love'. My favourite album has to be 'gets next to you' with its slightly more funky and upbeat rythmn. Its a great bargain which you can't miss out on if you like this kind of music.

Great music, mediocre sound quality4
These are all great soul albums and they all would be worth the price of buying them individually, so great pricing. Sadly the sound quality isn't what it could be. It's not a complete disaster but a good remastering job would increase these excellent tracks ability to shine. Hiring those guys at Universal, that did the Complete Motown Singles, might be a nice choice. These albums deserve it.

Apparently the remastering that was done a few years ago didn't live up to the expectations, check the Amazon US-site. So this is it until Demon or some other record company decides to do something about it.
