Customer Reviews

Good game, good idea, sequel coiuld be brilliant.4
I know it's a long way off and it's not even going to be thought of until a general level of sales have been confirmed, but Urban Reign needs a sequel.

The idea of a street fighter sweeping the streets of all gangs that stand before him is an appealing one and the game is an enjoyable experience, what else would you expect from the creators of Tekken and Soul Caliber?

What the game lacks is the animated depth in the story mode, that allows the story to be properly visualised, instead of just recieving mission bulletins before commencing. Also, more moves need to be implemented and an element of uniqueness about each story mode (e.g. When the star learns a new ability, a selection of moves could be learnt, rather than the character learning the exact same moves at the exact same time on each story mode).

All in all it's a solid game with the foundations of a good series, but it needs some cosmetic work to pad the game out and make it into a memorable game. Blood, more interaction with the surroundings, more realistic weapon attacks....In truth it's just basic updates and improvements needed for this game to become a really good game, but it's got all the tools in place.

Better than Tekken and Soul Calibur put together5
I can honestly say that this is the best beat 'em up I have ever played. Unlike most other fighters (Tekken, Soul Calibur...) its more than just two people facing each other on the screen exchanging blows- the fights take place in various arenas which you can move freely around, allowing you to take on many enemies at once. You can also choose to pick up a weapon (certain characters have a special fighting style with certain weapons), and you can interact with the arena (run up walls and somersault onto enemies, slam enemies onto cars etc.). Instead of bashing buttons there are great ways to out outsmart your enemy e.g. catch weapons thrown at you and throw them back, suplex enemies from the air when they jump at you, and reverse their moves in lots of cool ways. A great feature of the fighting system is the double team moves with your partner, which are easy to do, and most of them made me laugh out loud on seeing them for the first time because they are so over the top.
The main mode is like Tekken in the sense that you fight in rounds, except you can save the game at any time you want between rounds and the game last much longer than Tekken, which you virtually complete after 20 minutes or less. You start off playing the story mode as a `real man' called Brad Hawk (with some fantastic moves), then later start fighting with a partner (a variety of main story characters), who you can also choose to play as. Although I found some of the later levels really hard, it was still possible and I was determined to win because it was such an entertaining game. You unlock an amazing amount of characters, each with their own individual move set. Multiplayer mode rules and even my friends who don't like fighting games love to play Urban Reign.
People on Amazon seem to have mixed views about it, but I can promise you that it kicks ass and its sold for a low, low price in many places, so you have very little to lose. I bought it for £9.99 even though it's easily worth full price, and I would happily give Tekken and Soul Calibur away because I don't need them anymore :-D.

frustrating 1
I had to write a review for this game as it is a big pile of frustrating ..
I though hmmm..its made buy the peeps who made tekken its bound to be good..but no they have shamed themselves here..the screen shots totally miss lead it to be something bigger and better than what it is.
and another thing the game has no point to it..the story consists of jack s. and the character you HAVE to use "Brad" couldn't be much lamer.
if your interested in a product like this buy a mega drive and get streets of rage..now theres a game that kicked ass.
