Soul collections dont get any better
DJ Peter Young is a national treasure.One of a dying breed of DJs who play the music they love not the music from a computer programmed playlist.His love of soul,funk and gospel is lengendary.For 28 years he has opened the Soul Cellar on his radio shows and played the great music found on these two cd"s.Unlike lots of soul compalations these days that are full of hits that have been heard hundreds of times before. Peter Young has chosen great tracks even though they may not have been hits. From Curtis Mayfield a big favourite of Young"s to Georgie Fame from John Lee Hooker to the Staple Singers this cd is full of gems.When was the last time you saw the great Manu Dibango and rock and roll legend Little Richard on the same album.As long as there are DJ"s like Peter Young and radio stations allowing him to play this fantastic music it will never die.Get yourself a copy and enjoy soul music at it"s very best you wont be disappointed.

Great Selection from a DJ Legend
Really nice selection of songs on this CD. Recommended for anyone who loves their soul and wants to hear something new - as most of these tracks were not hits as such and were certainly new to me. Carefully selected by a DJ who knows his stuff. If you listened to Robbie Vincent in the 80s on Radio 1 - this will be up your street. It's now left to Peter Young on SmoothFM on a Saturday Night to fly the 'interesting soul music' flag, and long may he continue. I've just ordered Soul Cellar 2, which I'm sure most people do once they've heard this one.

Peter Young's magic touch
What's so good about this compilation is that it collects together great funky soul tracks that aren't already over familiar to the listening public i.e the tracks don't grate on you through repeated listenings, instead the album can grow on you and seem even better on the fourth listen. As the album sleeve says... 'The Soul Cellar is fully stocked with vintage classics and rare grooves - fruity ballads, full-bodies funk and a hint of gospel - all lovingly selected by esteemed DY Peter Young'. Can't agree more. Highly recommended.
