Album Description
Piano jazz innovator Cyrus Chestnut makes his Telarc debut with a recording that blends shades of gospel and popular music with his straightforward, straightahead jazz sensibility. In addition to seven original tracks, this set also includes jazz renditions of "If, " the early 1970's ballad by Bread, "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," originally made famous by Roberta Flack, and the Fats Domino rock and roll classic "I'm Walkin'."
Joining Chestnut trio's regular rhythm section of bassist Michael Hawkins and drummer Neal Smith are guitarist Russell Malone and percussionist Steve Kroon. The result is a rich and resonant synergy of jazz experimentation and exploration.
