Admit it: If you had to pick an artist to give voice to the wackadoo thinkings of a monkey beloved by most of the American populace over age 3, you could do a lot worse than Jack Johnson. Black Eyed Peas? Too hyper. Death Cab for Cutie? Too ironic. They Might Be Giants? Too eggheaded. Johnson, though the object of much rightful jealousy--here, after all, is a guy who only stumbled into music and vaulted himself up the charts after a successful career as a pro surfer--turns out to have the goods to do H.A. Rey, Curious George's creator, proud. Fans familiar with Johnson's earlier discs will recognize a certain laconic sprawl and easy fascination in his songs that suits the theme of perpetual puzzlement perfectly (here, let's not forget, is a guy who racked up fans with songs called "Bubble Toes" and "Banana Pancakes"). That the music takes a childish turn barely registers--songs like opener "Upside Down" are classic Johnson, all wonderment and groove, and the collaborations with friends Ben Harper, G. Love, and Matt Costa warm up, wink, and scamper off before packing on the weight of excess meaning. "We're Going to Be Friends," track seven, seals the deal--when you can make the White Stripes sound compatible with the Man with the Yellow Hat, you know you've got a multi-generational winner. --Tammy La Gorce

Delightful stuff - don't be curious, buy it!
The laid-back Hawaiian former pro-surfer returns with a soundtrack to the Curious George movie and, from the start, you can tell that this is a perfect accompaniment music for a wide-eyed perpetually puzzled cartoon character. However, for anybody who has enjoyed Jack's previous albums, this album can be enjoyed as a stand-alone listening experience - all you have to do is relax and groove to Jack's twisty, bluesy guitar and be de-stressed by his soothing vocals. The first track, Upside Down is a classic, upbeat, catchy Jack Johnson track which could have easily featured on In Between Dreams - as could the majority of this collection. The White Stripes are covered here in the form of the delightful We're Going To Be Friends and Jack gives his own reading of The 3R's which is also exceedingly toe-tapping, pleasant and, more importantly eco-friendly.
In fact, that's the whole feel to this album - nice, pleasant, relaxing, gentle music, even if you are almost looking over your shoulder for the furry cast of Sesame Street sometimes. If you're looking for an incredible listening experience which will fire up your emotions and that you will get very excited about then this probably isn't the album for you, but if you're in a mellow mood or perhaps just want to we coaxed into a better frame of mind, then the Curious George soundtrack, just like its predecessor In Between Dreams, is nigh on perfect for the task, without ever getting predictable or boring. Great guitar playing, as well. This isn't quite the world beater that In Between Dreams turned out to be, but it's a very approachable, enjoyable sequel. Oh, and the artwork on the CD digi pack and booklet is to be treasured.
Jack Johnson, Curious George Soundtrack
I was first introduced to Jack Johnson, and indeed, this soundtrack, at Christmas, having been given the movie for my 3 year old. I play it over and over as it is such a lovely collection of songs. I was rather surprised and pleased when I went for a meal the other day to find it playing in the restaurant. Surprisingly, it was the perfect backdrop with its relaxing mellow tones and gentle rhythms. I haven't bought it on CD as yet but I plan to so i can listen to it non stop in my car!
A really enjoyable collection of songs.
An album to make you smile...
I bought this disc on the strength of the single, Upside Down, which is a perfect way to start the album. The album is an upbeat, summery musical treat. Largely aimed at children due to the film it's been recorded for, the songs have real integrity that music lovers of any age can appreciate. The superb artwork that accompanies the disc makes the whole album a joy to behold.
