BEWARE: fake ones sold on Amazon Marketplace5
First I bought these on the Amazon Markertplace (from a trusted seller). I was pretty dissapointed by the sound quality (not too bad really, but not the expected Sennheiser quality). Also, they were quite uncomfortable and made crackling noises. So I got pretty suspicious and I googled some pictures of fake ones, and compared those with my CX300. Mine looked perfectly like the real ones, and even the packaging seemed right.

Untill I read about the cable lenght. When I measured mine they were L:250 mm; R:470 mm, 106cm from divider to plug. Real Sennheisers should measure L: 170 mm; R:510 mm, and 85 cm divider to plug. So I returned mine to the seller and received a full refund.

This morning I received another set of CX300 headphones, and this time they are the REAL thing. The sound quality is much better, and they are much more comfortable. SO BEWARE OF THE FAKE ONES SOLD ON AMAZON MARKETPLACE! If you are dissapointed about your CX300's, first check the cable lenght to find out if they are real.

    Beats iPod earphones hands-down5
After having used my iPod earphones that came supplied with the iPod itself for the last 2 years, I felt it was time to finally upgrade them. I had never been a fan of Apple's attempt at earphones as they had developed a magnetic rattle on the second day of use, when using them to listen to bass-heavy songs.

The Sennheiser CX300's in comparison are absolutely brilliant. Sound quality through all ranges is clear and bass comes across especially well, without being too dominant. They give a real punch in the bass when it's required and an overall smooth sound. The CX300's come with three sizes of ear-plug adapters to enable the earphone to fit right inside the ear canal. Some people may not like the small extra hassle of finding the optimum position every time they want to listen to their music, however the end results are far better than any earphones I have used to date. Their ability to dampen external noise is also a plus especially for use in busy environments such as the gym or about town.

Overall these are an exceptional pair of headphones for the price that make listening to any portable music device much more enjoyable.

    A definite upgrade from Sony's EX-71s4
The Sennheiser CX300 had been recommended to me by the kind folks over at AV Forums after I'd lost my EX-71s to cable corrosion in under six months. I opted for them as Sennheiser is a brand I've used before and have always been happy with.

I'm not at all disappointed in these headphones either, continuining Sennheiser's excellent form. Using them to listen to a broad spectrum of music encompassing the likes of Andrea Bocelli, Explosions in the Sky, Kanye West and even Beethoven, they hold up well with an immersive sound which picks up just as much range as the EX-71s but, in my opinion, delivers it with more gusto and feeling. Yes, at times the bass is slightly overplayed but almost all MP3 players are equipped with equaliser functions to allow you to play around with settings to equal-out the treble and bass powered to the headphones.

A complaint I'd heard prior to purchasing the headphones was that they transferred all sounds from anywhere down the wire into the ear, much in the same way the EX-71s did. However, I'm listening to the headphones on 40% volume as I type this and intrusion is at an absolute bare minimum. Whilst jogging, it is noticeable but, once again, not irritating to most.

The power in the headphones is also excellent as is the manner in which the sound is delivered. With accurately fitting plugs (choose from three sizes delivered with the headphones), outside sound is reduced excellently. As a result, the headphones seem 'loud' when the MP3 player's volume is turned up to about 50%. For those, like me, using Sony's MP3 players, this is a godsend as the players are notoriously quiet, especially when used with inferior headphones.

So, besides the sometimes bass-heavy output of these headphones, they've received a conclusive thumbs-up from me on all counts. The fit is unnoticable. The sound is tremendous. The price is a bonus. If you're looking around for a good set of ear canal 'phones in the lower-end of the market, you couldn't do much better than to buy the CX300s.
