Good skin, but needs modifying
Ordered this case, on a Sunday night, got it Tuesday morning, brilliant service.
The case itself, is good quality, but attracts dust etc like hell. Overall the aesthetics are pleasing. Although the box says suitable for 60GB iPod Videos (5.5 Gen) and 80GB iPod Classics (6 Gen) There is a slight difference; i believe the case is originally made for the iPod 60GB Video, when i put my classic in, it fitted fine, but was loose. I researched the depth of each ipod, and there is a 2mm difference, this proved my theory. There is a way you can make your 80GB iPod Classic have a snug fit, that is by using the cardboard fake ipod insert that you get with the case. I have simply slipped this in the skin, behind my iPod Classic, however the cardboard did need modifying, it was also a bit too big, so i bent the edges more, now it fits fine, nice and sung in the skin.
There is also a few other design faults; the click wheel silicon overlay functions, but is far too slow. My solution for this was to cut it out with a Stanley blade. Also the hold switch may trouble people, it is quite annoying, but now when i feel the reassuring click of the hold switch i know its locked/unlocked. Other people have got over this fault by cutting the hold switch out, like i have done with my click wheel.
Overall, its a good skin, it just needs a few modifications.
Almost perfect
I'll start with the bad bits, the reasons it didn't earn the 5 stars. It won't take long as there are only two of them and they are both pretty minor.
Firstly, the cover is a fairly tight fit around the headphone socket, so any "fat" 3.5mm connectors won't fit easily. It's only an issue with one out of half a dozen cables that I use but it made that cable unusable until I had at the cover with a sharp knife to make it a bit larger.
Secondly, it's a heck of a faff to get the cover on and off, so it lives in the cover the whole time. That means that the iPod won't fit into any cradle that uses the dock connector and the dock connector can only be used with cables. It's fine if all you do is connect it to your PC but don't harbour any ideas of connecting a SoundDock or the like.
The good bits, though, are very good. It has offered complete protection for my iPod (which gets thrown into rucksacks, bike bags and thrown around in the car, at work and at home), it looks good, it makes no difference to the watching of videos nor the responsiveness of the Click Wheel and it allows the iPod to be used wherever, whenever I want.
In three words, I love it.
FIRST CLASS
This is by far the most appealing, and practical ipod case.
The ipod is already a recognised piece of classic modern design. Simple, elegant, and functional. The sales figures prove it. So why spoil the lines with some of those clunky ipod cases out there?
But not only does the evo3 maintain the basic form of the ipod, adding a little character of its own (the clear hard plastic facia), but it's properly functional too. The silicone is thick enough where it matters to protect the ipod from every day knocks and bumps. The wheel works perfectly through the silicone - possibly even better than when the wheel is naked. The case is easy to apply, remove, and reapply. And amazingly, when I decided to throw a glass of water over it the other day, the case kept the ipod inside bone dry - mainly because the evo3 is not a loose case, but clings to the ipod. I wouldn't want to suggest you can dunk your ipod in a cup of coffee and expect it to survive, but you've got a better chance of protecting from the odd spill with this case than most.
A first class accessory to match a first class product.
