Awesome
This is what its all about, from the first purring bassline this CD wraps you in music and makes you scream for more. Dave Seaman takes you on a splendid journey throuch the whirls and thumps of his beautifully crafted noise. There is no such thing as a stand out track on this album because it is a complete serving of sound in 2 CDs. Purchase this you will literally be lost in music with the only downside being that it has to end!! This CD is definatley one to play and play again. Highly reccomended.
Stunning
A stunning album. Dave Seaman has pulled something completely sensational out of the bag here.
It's hard to define dance but this is pure upbeat, uplifting, intelligent, seamless, trance.
I'd go as far as to say better than his 2 mixes on Renaissance 4.
Certainly better than Awakening and Desire, which were both excellent albums.
Unchanged Dave doing what he does best
For me the one-starrer below really missed the plot here. It's fine if a mix doesn't do it for you - we all have them - but I felt his criticism was way off. So let's begin with the contentious track - The Heart's a Lonely Hunter. Yes it takes you by surprise, but hang on - isn't Dave considered one of the best DJs out there, and has for some time? Hasn't he done more Masters Series than anyone? With such credentials surely you can let some stuff slide, and if he wants to push the boat out I for one won't judge the whole mix by it. The song isn't the best on the album, but it's not that bad. And anyway it leads terifficly into the pick of the first CD - Slacker's awesome Memory Man. The first CD is rounded off with that rare treat - a decent prog track with vocals, in the shape of Gabriel and Dresden's Tracking Treasure Down, a nice, pushing end track with some intelligent vocals.
CD2, reportedly Seaman's least favourite of the 2, grows on you after a while. Play it a bit more and the tracks start to show themselves. The last 3 in particular deserve note - Seaman sets up his shop early for the climax, which sets off apace, unrelenting to the end, kicked off by Bedrock's trippy, texture-rich Santiago. Don't Walk Away, earlier on, is another highlight, though is frighteningly similar to a track in a similar position in the mix on the second CD of Cattaneo's Sequential- a bit of competition in camp Renaissance? Speaking of which, which of these two recent Renaissance mixes edge it? I loved Sequential (save for the rubbish 'With My Friends' track) but Dave's effort would be first in my desert island bag.
While lately it might be said that some releases have pushed prog into a new direction (an altogether slower one at times), this mix isn't part of that. This is Seaman sticking to his guns, bringing much the same ammunition to the table as he did for his first two Masters mixes. 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' and all that.
