Fabulous little point and shoot
I bought this to compliment my S9500, which I bought at the same time, so I would have a camera to fit in my pocket when carrying a DSLR sized camera around would be a pain. It is very important for me to have a camera with an optical viewfinder so that I can take pictures in bright outdoor light and see what I am doing. This was the key feature for me in choosing this camera from this price range. The LCDs on the backs of cameras are fine for previewing captured images, but not much else in my view. Plus points - it does what it says on the tin, including more than acceptable macro shots. Accurate focus, quite useful if fiddly optical zoom, and wonderful colour balance that is not oversaturated as is the case with many of the rival manufacturers' products (honourable exception, Olympus).
Minus points - xD card supplied is too small (appears to be the same with all Fujis). No case. But then look at the price. VFM is hard to beat.

Fuji A500
I was looking for a simple point and shoot camera to supplement my SLR, and this fits the bill perfectly - so much so that I often use it instead of my other cameras. It has a nice robust feel to it. The images are cristal clear and sharp, with nice bright colours. The initial set-up is simple using the sensible menu options.
The zoom control is a little fiddly to use, but you get used to it quite quickly.
The internal memory is very small, so get an xd card of at least 256 mb which will hold about 100 shots on max resolution.
Battery life is good - I use 2300mA NiMh rechargables and a set lasts for a full day (at least 50 - 60 shots)

Brilliant little camera
got this this morning and am chuffed with it! i've bought it mainly for pictures of the kids at school events because my old 2mp couldn't cope with low lighting. i've only played with this but it does everything you want for normal family snapshots. Very sharp picture, has a viewfinder which is helpful if the lcd gets broken or you can't see the lcd well. nice fit in the hand and nice controls. easy and straight forward to use but you can still do things like adjust the white balance and alter the exposure.
