Customer Reviews

I'm just chuffed...5
White Bread Black Beer really is a sweet record, full of personal reflections, tenderness, self-deprecation and mea culpas galore. It's a clever recording too, packed with subtleties and nuances that only reveal themselves after several listens and I congratulate it for bringing a bit of patience and perseverance back into my listening life. Repeated plays really do harvest riches. To be frank, I'm just chuffed that someone I admired twenty years has returned, not with a clumsy reunion tour and a stewed, skewed greatest hits package, but with a fresh and vibrant piece of art that enhances a reputation and adds maturity, class and warmth to an already remarkable back catalogue. Bravo!

almost genius, a bit annoying3
I love scriiti politti of cupid and pysche and provision. Both beautifully crafted and fully realised albums of their time. So how do you take this album! Hmm very different, some of the same beautiful harmonious melodies, but no real hooks in the music except for the lush boom boom bap, and alot of self indulgent lyrics, do we really care enough to decipher, not me! still I play it again and again

a great return5
It's been a long time since anything was heard of Green Gartside.
This album has a very striped down production that has the voice at the top of the mix, the extravagant productions that scritti did in the 80's have been ditched for letting the song come first.
The only qualm is cooking which seems like a bit of half written song.
You can play this album over and over
Stand out tracks are ; The boom boom bap, snow in sun and petrococadallor
