Excellent Value for Money
The machine is so slim 44mm high and in width so compact as well and the design is so cool with black front and in the middle luminous blue/red color button. I am sure that it is one of the slimmest recorders available at the moment.

I have been also quite happy with featurings and functions for it for which I paid much less than other branded products.

Easy Multi-region setting thru remote which I have got from Ellion support phone nbr, Power-On, Keep the tray open with no disc inside and then 7-7-0 except for while you are on TV mode.

DVD Discs & DIVX playback has been excellent.

Good connection outputs such as Dual scarts (In/Out), i-Link, 5.1 ch audio out, CVBS In/Out, S-video In/Out, Component out, Coaxial/Optical, all these connections will surely give me lots of varieties when connecting it to other devices.

Recording time onto Hard Drive mainly on HQ & SP is satisfactoring. 53 Hrs on HQ & 106 Hrs on SP.

I have tested functions of copying HDD to DVD and DVD to HDD and Time shift when watching a TV program and they have been all perfect.

I heard from Ellion support center that a new firmware with regard to edditing function of recorded programs on HDD will be released soon however I do not know yet of what it is for and anyhow I will keep an eye on it for my future needs.

Definitely this recorder is a good purchase for such functions and features at that bargained price.

Nice Machine, with a simple interface
After some initial setup, this recorder works very well. I'd recommend it.
Only minor niggles I've had are:-
1) Remote buttons are a bit rubbery and don't provide positive feedback.

2) When recording to DVD, you get the chance to record in 5 or 10 minute chapters, which is great, however, when you record to the hard disk, it records it as a single lump. This means if you go to fast forward or rewind and hit the skip chapter button, it takes you to the start or finish or the whole recording, a bit frustrating on a long film.

3) I haven't found any way to switch the default startup routine from scanning the DVD first. Most of the recordings I tend to do are adhoc, so I want to use the hard disk for recordings, you normally have to wait 30seconds to a minute before you can switch, whilst the machine fires up any inserted DVD.

4) I also own a Oneforall Kameleon 6 remote, which doesn't have codes as yet for this device (though this isn't Ellion's fault).

Both the oneforall and the Ellion can be updated, so 2, 3 & 4 should hopefully be available in the near future.

Avoid Like the Plague
As with the previous reviewer I found this player a huge letdown. Initially tempted by the huge HD and reasonable price I grew frustrated wtih the constant stuttering of the picture and the lip-syncing (or lack of) frustrated me no end. I returned the player and requested a replacement. Unfortunately, as I found out, this was not a singular problem as the second player suffered similar faults, along with the disc drive actually not opening.

My advice, don't be tempted unless you're happy to settle with far less than perfect.
