Editorial Reviews

Synopsis
The second series of Nighty Night finds Jill (Julia Davis) still obsessed with Don (Angus Deayton) and travelling to Cornwall to find him. Jill discovers the new-age health centre where Don and Cath (Rebecca Front)--under the wing of hippy therapist Jacques--are trying to rebuild their relationship. The multi-award winning success of the first series has led to a second series unafraid to take its black humour into areas of bad taste, while retaining its comedic edge. Julia Davis gives a compelling performance as the glamorous, self-absorbed sociopath Jill, who manipulates everyone she comes across in order to get her way.

Customer Reviews

Has its moments but not as good as series 13
I loved series 1 to bits and had heard from friends that series 2 was much "closer to the edge". They were right. I doubt this will get a third series. Didn't offend me but lots of times it just felt that JD had run out of ideas and went for the most ridiculous plotline she could imagine.

goes for the neck this time hey!4
series two of nighty night truly went for it,more adult, more obscene, more over the top and in doing so lost some of its comical edge, but is still miles better than the more mainstream rubbish that appears on television.
Series two carries on from where series one left off,but is set in cornwall where husband don and wife cath have fleed to start again and get away from the evil clutches of jill, again played brilliantly by creator julia davis,a witch that few can draw comparison too,the lies she tells, the way she manipulates and prods at peoples weaknesses and of course her generosity,as in she buys someone a gift and then says ,we will square up later or it gets nasty is pure gold and one of her catchphrases that sums her up best.
Jill eventually tracks them down and so begins a series of grossed out humour, cringe worthy moments and madness all round as jill attempts to take all that isnt hers,by now she doesnt care if she kills people,it just doesnt matter, this series is still great but not as vital as the first but all round this is a series that is just stunning, better than the office?yes!

Better than before!5
The follow up series to the highly successful Nighty Night. Here we get to follow Jill as she continues her relentless persuit of Don. Along the way we learn more about Linda and meet her Dennis. Glen becomes the centre of Jill's life as she tries to 'get rid' of him. Cathy grows and Sue 2 is liberated.

This is a laugh a second. All those who were fans of series 1, take a fresh look at Jill and the situation she has created in this series. This is outstanding comedy. We are introduced to new characters, getting to know more about Linda and Glen (both great charachters)and more visual gags. The total destruction of everyones lives casued by Jill is amazingly displayed. All the characters come into their own and develop a maturity and strength, resulting in everyone actually (almost) being better off emotionally for meeting Jill. The huricane that is Jill Tyrell shows it's full destructive force in this second series. Journey with the characters as they rebuild their shattered lives.

Definitley the best comedy money can buy.

Note: I watched this series without the benefit of having seen series 1 and I found it hilarious. I have now seen series 1 but hold series 2 as being far more briliant. Unfortuantely those that saw series 1 first seem to have a disappointing reaction to series 2. I find that a real shame and I would recommend that time is given for series 2 to sink in. I found series 1 did not meet my expectations based on my viewing of series 2 first, and I would suggest that this is the same for those that have seen series 1 first. Give it time and repeated watching and I am sure you will find that series 2 deserves it's place on the shelf next to series 1. I am looking forward to series 3 if one is ever made.
