Customer Reviews
Nice drive, poor way for SanDisk to treat customers
Very nice and neat little 1Gb flash drive. I bought it for my wife who works in a school and was concerned that the pre-installed software would load onto all the computers at the school so I checked it out first on my PC.
It loads new 'U3' stuff onto any computer it is connected to. It doesn't ask if you want it to, or if you would rather delete the 40+Mb and have the space instead. U3 is supposed to be that 'smart way to use a flash drive' as it allows you to access other software and settings anywhere (at a price in some cases) but what if you just want a flash drive? If you want U3 great, but if you don't it would be nice to be asked before it installs. It isn't straightforward to get rid of either as is doesn't appear in the 'add remove programs' thingy. They must have had complaints though because there is a download to uninstall U3 from your drive at: http://www.u3.com/uninstall/.
Check out U3 at www.SanDisk.com under flash drives and if you decide it isn't for you, download the uninstall program (http://www.u3.com/uninstall/). When you insert your drive for the first time, hold the [Shift] key down (which should prevent the automatic installation of U3 software). Then run the uninstaller and you will be left with a great little flash drive.
A pain
This memory stick is a great device to have on you. It has a great design and has password protection. For it's performance it's also very cheap. ***WARNING***
This device does not work properly on all machines. If you own a Dell PC, it may not work. It doesn't on mine or on any other Dell PC that I know of. It may not work especially if you own XP Media Centre Edition, because it has a driver that blocks other drivers from being installed without your consent and goes onto the BSOD screen whenever you try. This is also similar to computers linked to a network. If you are a student at school or college, you network probably blocks anything that you try to install. I am a student and my Cruzer does not work all the time. Other than this, the device works very well and serves it's purpose without any hastle.
Fast, cheap and practical what else do you want?
I ordered what I though was this product but received something else due to an Amazon mistake. The shop I bought it from (TheComponentShop)was extremely helpful though and responded to my emails very fast. They replaced the product with the right one for no extra cost. I am very satisfied with their customer service.
About the product:
-The retactable usb port is the best feature of this product. No need to carry around extra caps which always end up getting lost.
-It is small compact and stylish
-Fast data access and transfer
-It contains the U3 software (google it to find out what it is) which is an added bonus in my opinion but if you don't like it you can set it not to auto run whenever you insert the drive (you can still run it manually) or even completely uninstall it to give you just a normal flash drive.
-Ridiculously cheap for 1Gb(~£7.50)
In conclusion this drive has everything you would want from a flash drive and a bit extra. Its a very nice an practical and for this price you would be crazy not to buy it.
