Editorial Reviews

CD Description
'Kelis Was Here' is the fourth album from multi-platinum R'n'B diva, Kelis. Drawing on much the same formula as her 2003 hit 'Milkshake', the album pops and fizzes with raunchy rhythms and suggestive lyrics, as well as some fantastic production work from the cream of R'n'B's hitmakers. Includes thesingle 'Bossy'.

From the Label
Two years ago Kelis dominated the UK's airwaves. She proved that she was the queen of off-kilter R&B with the unbelievable success of her singles 'Milkshake', 'Trick Me', 'Millionaire' and 'In Public'. 2006 will see her step back on that throne. Producers that feature on the album include Will.I.Am (Black Eyed Peas), Cee Lo (Gnarls Barkley), Max Martin & Raphael Saadiq.

As Good As Tasty? Undecided4
This album kept me thoroughly entertained throughout its course of 18 tracks which surprised me as I didn't have to skip once. My only minor grumble is that quite a few of the songs have chorus's that are just repetition of the same line over and over, which is not real songwriting to me. Tracks guilty of this crime are 'Til The Wheels Fall Off', 'What's That Right There' and 'Appreciate Me' in particular (despite the latter being one of my favourite tracks).

The best tracks are 'Trilogy' which has a fab chorus showing Kelis has a great voice, and 'Circus' which sees her rap her way through a host of verses. Others to watch out for are the self-assured single 'Bossy', 'Blindfold Me' (maybe a little to much information!) and 'Like You' which samples an opera voice as an instrument which I thought was very interesting and fresh. `Lil Star' is a cute little number and in `Handful' she admits to being overwhelming, and, well, a handful!

Kelis has clearly experimented on this album and allowed her creativity to flow. I am still yet to decide whether it's better than 'Tasty' but it's still a corker of an album. What it does lack is that one special song that will hook in the music buying public, like 'Milkshake' did. Kelis has also taken a gamble by dropping 'The Neptunes' as her producers, which is slightly puzzling as they seem to be going from strength to strength. Kelis has taken control and the results are very promising, and pleasing to hear.

kelis gets even tastier5
This album is hot, from the opening to the nice finish (then theres also a brash hidden track with a cool sample) kelis' smoky vocals against some of the hottest RnB,Pop and rock beats make for a loud infectious listen notably tracks like Bossy, blindfold me,fire, till the wheels fall off, whats that right there and the lush lil star feat.Cee-lo. If you loved Tasty then this is even better as long as your prepared for the fact that its not just another RnB album with songs that have been recycled and recycled ( ahem Bday!) x

FANTASTIC!!!5
Absolutely brilliant. Best £9 you will ever spend.

Why?

1) There are 18 tracks (1 is hidden)
2) Each song is different
3) All the songs are catchy
4) Good collaborations

I'm not even joking, this is, without a doubt, the best CD of 2006. Amazing. Spot-on. Each track is great and none are "skippable".

Best so far.
