Editorial Reviews
From the Label
Two years ago Kelis dominated the UK's airwaves. She proved that she was the queen of off-kilter R&B with the unbelievable success of her singles 'Milkshake', 'Trick Me', 'Millionaire' and 'In Public'. 2006 will see her step back on that throne. Producers that feature on the album include Will.I.Am (Black Eyed Peas), Cee Lo (Gnarls Barkley), Max Martin & Raphael Saadiq.

No other songstress can come close to this vixen
Kelis's fourth album maintains and still stands apart from other female R&B-pop sirens. I'm extremely happy with this album. I have been a true Kelis fan since the release of `Wanderland.' Kelis is a confident woman who brings a non traditional, progressive sound to music. She reveals how truly talented she is. There are so many beautifully constructed and delivered songs in this album. The styles on this album go from R&B, rock, hip hop, '80s new wave, classic soul, and rap. She even gives us a great mixture of ballads and club tracks. There is no shortage of music in here.
Once I first heard the intro I mistook it for a track because it was so catchy. The start out single `Bossy' (Featuring Too $hort) is great because it lets her fans and new listeners know who she is. `"Aww S***" ,' `I Don't,' `Handful,' `Appreciate Me,' and the hidden track called "F*** Them B****es" are some of Kelis's trademark clearly showing us what a tough person she is and what she represents- got to love it. She brings back the sexuality on `Whats That Right There,' and `Blindfold Me,' which is beautiful and the lyrics are nice. `Till the Wheels Fall Off Think,' `Living Proof,' bring in some great melody's, class, and funky beats that you'll won't resist. `Like you,' is one of my personal favorites because of the beats and the opera chorus held in the background it's so tight!
`Weekend (Featuring Wil.i.am)' is very infectious, uplifting beat with some fun lyrics. `Lil Star' is another personal favorite because it has an old school vibe and Cee Lo and Kelis's voice works so well together. In `Trilogy,' Kelis brings us to her world which is sweet because you would think the Neptunes had there hands on this track. `Goodbyes' is nice soft melody accompany by some great lyrics. `Circus' is good because Kelis brings out what most music artist probably stands for these days. And finally, `Have A Nice Day' - is a great ending because it's soft and joyful at the same time. After hearing this album I couldn't get enough. She is such a great artist that is so under appreciated.
`Kelis was here' is defiantly a very strong album. You can tell she has gone through a lot of changes in here. She has held on to her roots while branching out into this album. She is clearly one true artist.
HUGELY under-rated
People think of Kelis as that "mad chick who screams on tunes," but that is so far from what she has progressed to be. Her take on "URBAN" music is very unique and uterly creative. She should just have her own genre becuase this album is truly not like anything out there. She's talkin about love and all that general subject content but the WAY in which she does is commendable. I hope one day she gets the respect she deserves.
Content: 7/10
Production: 9/10. She manages to get your normal RnB produces to produce songs that they probably wouldnt do for anyone else
Lyrics: 7/10
Creativity: 11/10 Cant stress how unique this album is
Variety: 8/10. Whole range of vocal production, style and content
Guest Apperances: 8/10. Nas and Cee-lo songs were really good. Another talentless rapper from the South, my nephew could have wrote better bars than he did 4 Bossy. Spragga Benz was also good.
Overall: 8.5/10
S.O.T. (stand out tunes)
Fire
Weekend
Till the wheels fall off
Aww s.....
What that right there
Like You
She really shouldnt do slow jams tho!
Er...lets not get it twisted here
This album is ok, pretty decent but by no means GREAT! I'm baffled by other reviewers rating it 5/5- madness! Kelis's old albums like Tasty and Kaleidoscope are faaaar better, in fact this is her weakest album yet in my opinion but it's still worth buying for tunes like Bossy, Blindfold me and Trilogy which are all superb.
