Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review:

In a nutshell:
Few kids films can be as well suited to video game immortalisation as Cars and just for once a movie license-in hasn’t just been used for a cheap cash-in. Think Ridge Racer, Jr. and there’s plenty to enjoy here for both adults and children.

The lowdown:
When you’ve got a movie populated solely by talking cars it at least means there’s no need to turn the game into yet another third person platformer. Instead you take the role of stock car Lightning McQueen in what is actually a sequel to the movie’s plot, as he works his way up the racing leagues. Whether there’s someone driving Lightning or not he still handles like any other arcade racer, complete with a handy powerslide. The artificial intelligence of the other cars can seem a bit too willing to let you win in the early stages but there are separate kids and adults modes to ensure all ages get a decent challenge.

Most exciting moment:
Although it’s not quite Grand Theft Auto the game features a surprisingly large game world for you to explore, with wide open canyons and towns filled with tons of side quests and mini-games to ignore or enjoy as you please.

Since you ask:
Almost the entire voicecast of the movie reprise their roles, recording original dialogue just for the game. This includes Owen Wilson and, in his first ever role in a video game, the legendary Paul Newman.

The bottom line:
One of the best movie tie-ins for a while and a decent little racer.
HARRISON DENT

Car Trouble1
What a disapointment! I bought Cars for my son's birthday. He is 5 and loves playing Mario Kart so I thought Cars would be perfect for him. I was expecting a great racing game with lots of fun and action but I couldn't have been more wrong. Cars is difficult to play; the instructions are poorly written and even more poorly presented on-screen. The whole game feels cheap. Yes, there are lots of mini-games, but I would rather have 2 good ones than a dozen bad ones. The main racing game is poorly executed and is reminiscent of games from the 80s and 90s as effectively all you do is change lanes. Don't buy it!

Cars is GREAT!5
Cars is one of the best games ever. I haven't stoped playing on it since I got it.
It is brilliant because you play three mini games to collect the races. There are four races and loads of mini games to play so you don't get bored. The mini games are all different and so are the races.
It is not that hard because it explains it all before you play the mini games. On the races you don't use the touch pad you use the keys but on the mini games and everything else you use the touch pad. This game is really good.

Addictive 4
I got this game yesterday and with the exception of the final race it's completed, I wish there were more hidden things on there or something however it was very nice not to just have another platform game, while some of the mini games were a bit boring and annoying to get through there was a variety and I really enjoyed it. Definately worthewhile gettting and I'll probably play the mini games over anyway particularly as there's new levels unlocked - but more of the same thing.
