Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
TV’s (or at least DVD’s) most outrageous cartoon family get their own video game that not only looks just like the show but is just as funny and offensive.

The lowdown:
Being cancelled may have been the best thing that’s ever happened to Family Guy, because ever since it was brought back it’s been more popular than ever – why it’s even got its own video game now. As with most licensed games it’s not exactly breaking down any gameplay paradigms, but at least it’s got some quality gags to fall back on. You can control one of three characters: Brain the dog (whose levels are all stealth based), Peter the dad (whose missions are basically scrolling beat ‘em-ups) and baby Stewie. There’s also a lot of very short mini-games, but none of it really adds up to being more than an interactive background for the game’s jokes. For most Family Guy fans that’s going to be fine though.

Most exciting moment:
As you might expect the best bits of the game involve Stewie, the family’s psychotic baby. They’re basically platform levels with Stewie jumping, gliding and shooting his way to world domination. He’s also got a mind control ray for taking over adults and there’s some fun on-the-rails shooting sections and into-the-screen chases.

Since you ask:
The game’s script is written by series creator Seth McFarlane, who also provides voiceovers along with series regulars Mila Kunis, Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Patrick Warburton and Adam West. There’s even a bunch of regular guest stars including Wallace Shawn, Charles Durning, and Adam Corolla.

The bottom line:
Good for Family Guy fans, not so good for everyone else.-HARRISON DENT

A buggy interactive family guy episode that fails to impress1
Although fairly well presented with witty dialogue, the game really fails to impress. The levels for each character repeat and repeat with very little variation, particularly levels involving Brian which are mainly luck that you are not caught. Stewies levels and remarks are funny but again his levels are constantly repeating. Peter has an unimprssive selection of moves, with particular moves to defeat each type of character, making it difficult to deal with large numbers of enemies. Unlike some games where it is a challenge to try and complete a mission, the family guy missions just become tiring and frustrating, trying to make that last high jump for Stewie or trying to avoid the last cop detecting you in Brians levels. Finally the game is buggy and lacks a polished presentation, i have fallen victim to a bug in the autosave system and am stuck in a family guy purgatory for ever, unable to proceed with the game and am forced to start again. Overall, moderately entertaining but becomes boring quickly. Don't be surprised if you end up starting the game from the beginning because of a bug.
