Product Description

A comedy from the director of 'Underground' and 'Arizona Dream', Emir Kusturica's 'Black Cat White Cat', Silver Lion Winner at the Venice Film Festival 1998, is a riotous mix of farce, romance and crime. Set within a community of gypsy people, it tells a story of dodgy deals, family ties, young love and magical occurences. Zare is in love with beautiful Ida but his crooked father Matko, having botched up a black market deal, intends to marry him off to the sister of a powerful gangster - a woman so tiny that her nickname is Ladybird. Beautifully filmed on the banks of the Danube this colourful comedy is crammed with spectacle, incident and the powerful music of Emir Kusturica's famous travelling gypsy band

Oh boy!5
What a movie. I can't remember ever seeing a movie that has so much vitality and energy - maybe even too much. Does this tell you something about Serbian mentality? Hope there's time for peace and quiet there too, because in this film, there's none. But this film is so fascinating and wonderfull, that it makes your senses tingle. Quite remarkable example of imagination and solid good humour. Filled with wonderfull characters, that are so brutally funny that you can just shake your head with amazement. Still I can perfectly understand, that some people might find this film a bit too much. It is breathtaking in many levels. Sheer volume of visuals and noice is astounding. I had some difficulties adjusting to this spectacle myself, after having watch a lot of much slower films. This is one of those films that you either love or hate, but this is rewarding experience, if you let yourself go. Not your typical hollywood comedy. Makes "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" look like dry and liveless film.

Probably one of the best movies I've seen. I have not seen anything like it since seeing it 10 years ago. I would watch it only for the gypsy music does not stop it's like a tumulinous croud of musicians. The story line is clear with unexpected twists and full of comical action. It is difficult to express how great this film is as it made me laugh cry and fill with admiration for the director/writers.

Just brilliant...5
I saw this film after seeing Kusturica's Underground, and it was every bit as good. I loved everything about it - the humour, the characters, the way it was shot and most of all the music, which should have anyone who loves the Balkans dancing around the room or rolling around with laughter ('az sum Pitbull Terri-eri-er'... classic). I truly can't recommend this film enough and I am looking forward to seeing some more of this great director's wonderful films.
