In a nutshell:
In the increasingly crowded world of World War II-inspired shooters, the Call of Duty series is the oft-challenged king. Call of Duty 2 adds improved friendly and Nazi artificial intelligence (which means understanding a few words of German can make the difference between knowing the enemy is advancing on the left as opposed to the right flank) as well as some beautiful visual effects, most impressive of which is the smoke, which now billows and authentically blankets parts of the battlefield in a fog of war.

The lowdown:
The yells of your men mix with the bellowing of the storm troopers in skirmishes that already feel heady and confusing, adding to the sensation of being in a real conflict. Intense, chaotic and making full use of Xbox 360’s Dolby Digital surround sound, Call of Duty 2 looks as though it will create a new benchmark for console simulations of the last World War.

Most exciting moment:
Clearing houses of those last few concealed Nazis is nerve-racking and highly rewarding, as is lobbing a smoke grenade into the bunker of a particularly troublesome machine-gunner before storming it in the resulting blackout.

Since you ask:
If you liked TV’s Band of Brothers, listen up, because virtually the entire cast appears to have signed up to provide voiceovers for the game.

The bottom line:
Unlike smoking behind the bike sheds, this is shaping up to be big, hard and clever.

Manufacturer's Description
Call of Duty 2 lets players experience four individual soldier stories as they overcome insurmountable odds in multiple campaigns. Players have the freedom to follow each of the four storylines through for the ultimate character-driven experience, or they can engage in the historic battles chronologically for quick hitting action.

Infinity Ward, creator of the blockbuster, original Call of Duty, has also expanded the scope of combat to deliver a truly realistic battlefield experience. Squads now have the freedom to take on a variety of mission objectives, on expansive battlefields that allow for multiple paths and the ability to utilize actual combat tactics like outflanking and fire and maneuver capabilities.

Call of Duty 2's new engine and A.I. technology set the stage for authentic squad combat and astonishing action. Concealment can be key as battlefield smoke or even deployed smoke grenades cloud visibility. Weather effects such as the dusty sandstorms of North Africa and whiteout blizzard conditions of Russia, for example, will keep soldiers glued to their bunkers. The team has also employed a state-of-the-art Battle Chatter System that brings the action to life as squad-mates bark out context-sensitive updates in real-time to players through an advanced A.I. system.

The WW2 Shooter5
without any doubt the best shooter released on xbox to date a game that is so good on xbox live you will find it hard to play all the other games you have. good offline but awesome online and for this reason i give it 5 stars and ask does anybody not enjoy this game on xbox live ?

A free token for a map pack you say........1
The copy of Call of Duty 2 GOTY edition I recieved from Amazon.co.uk did not contain a token to download the Skirmish Map pack, which contains 2 maps and costs 400 Microsoft Points without this token. The game I recieved seems to be a later edition of the GOTY version of Call of Duty 2 which for some reason does not include the token, if you look at the product picture for this game you will notice it mentions the free maps however the GOTY version I have has a similar but darker red sticker that mentions only the bonus DVD, I looked all over the inside and outside of the case, checked on the DVD and in the game and find no mention what so ever of a token. im not too bothered as the game itself is still worth buying if you dont have it yet for your Xbox 360 but I feel it note worthy to anyone considering a purchase of the GOTY edition that you DO NOT recieve a token for the Skirmish Map Pack. I rate the product as 1 star purely based on the false advertising of the product, the game itself I rate as 4 stars.

Great single player, FABULOUS online5
whats so good about this game?? Well firstly there is the gameplay. On the PS2 I could never get used to aiming/shooting using the analog sticks - so much so that I would only play games like medal of honor and call of duty on my pc using keyboard and mouse. If you felt the same then this game should be the one to change your mind, as the controls feel just right.

Graphics are great despite what one or two previous people have previously said - I would strongly suggest they start up their old ps2/xbox using a similar type of game (say medal of honor like I did) it was surprising just how much the graphics have changed!!

Playing online against other xbox live users is simply brilliant. Provided you've got a decent broadband connection, I have found the game works spot on, maintaining smooth graphics and speed of play. Single player offline mode is also excellent with a good variety of tasks to perform!

In summary, if you have liked this type of game in the past (or simply want to try it out) I have full confidence that you will enjoy it.......hope this helps your decision to buy!!!
