Customer Reviews
Not what she was
I cannot agree less with the other reviewers here. I originally bought India's first album 'Acoustic Soul' and thought it was original and moving and was one of my favourite albums for a long time. For some reason I never bought Voyage to India but moved on to this album full of optimism. It did not live up to it.
Gone are the catchy tunes and meaningful lyrics to be replaced by a preachy album that above all misses any good melodies. There are only so many times you can say life is about whats inside and not outside. Lyrics such as 'I wish there was a video game to teach you your ancestors name' just come across as cringy. Its not the message I disagree with, I believe as much as anybody but she just needs to move on and get back to great songs sung with an amazing voice.
This lady is brilliant
Wow ...what can I say? I was recommended India.Arie by Amazon based on what i'd told them I own and even though i'd never heard of her I decided to give her a try, I got her first album"Acoustic soul" first and fell in love with it so I decided to try her other albums out too, this one is the most personal, I think we've all felt the way India's felt in the past so it's very easy to relate to the music on here, the only complaint I have is that I want more of her music soooooooooooo record some NOW .............please
CHILL TO THE BEAT!
It is amazing that this lady is not more well known. Blending R&B with soulful acoustic sounds, India's voice is really a treat to behold.
This is not the style of music I would normally buy, but the innocence of the style against Beyonce and the like is huge.
The lyrics and beat are engaging without being in your face or oversexual.
R&B for the grown ups? Maybe, it will probably hold her back, but you feel the integrity in her songs will keep her on track.
Not an artist who will be topping the charts at regular intervals but thats not because of lack of talent, just not your average pop R&B.
If you like this style you will be happy to have a down to earth chill album to relax and possibly have a good wiggle to!
