Excellent quality & value
I've had my One in my kitchen for about 7 months now and am very happy with it. It looks neat, the signal is strong, nice full-bodied sound in both FM and DAB modes. I find the buttons/dial combination quite intuitive, the dial just changes its function to suit the context, rather like the the select/reject buttons on a mobile phone. Just press the button and it switches on/off quickly, no need for fiddling about when you're short of time. Excellent value for money.
Love my pure radio
This portable radio is great. It's light to move, and I've got the rechargeable battery which means you can charge it up overnight and then the battery will last for ages. The sound quality is very good, and it's fantastic to get stations like BBC worldservice, which I can't get on my old radio.
The only minor complaint is that my display always shows the battery at 'full' and then suddenly the radio stops working, but that's not too much of a problem. The battery is good for 3-4 days of use without recharging and I use it a lot.
A superb radio - until my wife dries her hair
I'm sure this is a problem with DAB generally, but when my wife uses her hairdryer upstairs it affects the reception so much that any station becomes 'unavailable' and I have to switch to FM. As the radio has no AM (understandably) this means I can't listen to Five Live for about 7 minutes in the morning. Another negative is the battery life: there is none.
Some other niggles include the presets - it's not much quicker getting to your presets than finding a new station, as you have to go through the same process to do either: press button, twist dial, push button. Numbered preset buttons - 1 to 5 as other radios have - would have been handier.
However, just look at these positives:
> Its scrolling text. If you miss some info, just push and turn the dial anti-clockwise and the text scrolls back. Twist it clockwise and you can read ahead. And for an added bonus, the text still appears even if you're tuned to FM.
> It's quick to start up. Press 'On', it comes on. Simple, compared to a Sony DAB I have in the lounge. With that I have to switch on, press the DAB button and wait for the last station to appear. Then click on CD button, then back to DAB, then scroll up and down stations until it decides to tune in. True, it might be faulty, but with my One there's no hassle.
> It updates new/changed stations automatically. I don't know when or how it does this; all I know is that you don't have to do a station scan every so often. (Sony, again take note.)
> It has a solid build, and I've never had to max the volume - and it lives in a noisy kitchen.
> Prefer some quiet time? Plug in some headphones and listen in stereo sound, even though there's just one main speaker.
So, to recap, it's a perfect radio - just remember to hide your partner's hairdryer first.
