CAPTAIN PUGWASH SETS SALE FOR POWERPOP ISLAND5
Head Pugger Thomas Walsh is a man in thrall to ELO, late period XTC, The Beatles and Roy Wood. This record is a classic collection of harmony driven, snappy powerpop and lovely ballads. There are no fillers. The sound production is lush and the arrangements, by Dave Gregory, perfectly realised.
Mr Walsh is an erudite lyricist with an ear for a captivating melody and a knack for writing chorus's that simply lodge themselves in your brain and won't let go (very Neil Finn in places). He possesses an expressive voice pitched somewhere between Lennon and McCartney, with a hint of Skylarking era Andy Partridge, and knows how and when to employ seductive vocal harmonies.
Released on the small indie label 1969 Records, Jollity was sadly overlooked on its initial release in early 2006. Do yourself a favour and hunt it down. You will not be dissapointed. This is the finest classic pop record i have heard in years - and yes if it sounds like i'm in love with this CD then i'm happy to stand up and be counted.
Highlights - The Beachboys like 'Nice To be Nice', The Oasis with A Levels 'Something New', the Beatley 'This Could Be Good', 'Poles Together' and the magnificent Andy Partridge co-write 'Anchor'.
There's a new Pugwash long player out in March - i for one can't wait

WE NEED THIS MUSIC MORE THAN EVER!!!5
Having spun this album for the last two days solid I feel I can say that it's up there! As with 'spilt milk' and 'skylarking' it hasn't got one single filler on it. It's inspired and well crafted power-pop at it's absolute best. The overall feel is retro with use of strings, mellotron, acoustic guitars and harmonies but the band sounds fresh, contemporary and timeless with nods to The Beatles, Beach boys and XTC. The sheer quality (identity!) of these songs will make this band huge one day! So, anyone into Aimee Mann, Michael Penn, XTC & Andy Partridge, The Beatles, Jellyfish, Jason Falkner, Beach boys, The Posies, Elvis Costello, Elliott Smith etc. should seriously consider getting this album! This album and the previous 'earworm' can both be found on Itunes in case they're sold out here.
