Customer Reviews
Some truly great material but kinda lazy as much of this seems to have been cribbed from existing Warner comps
One of the more pricey box sets to be released of late and a decent enough selection, but hardly ground-breaking and introduces little if anything that couldn't be found elsewhere already. Most of the more interesting tracks have already been issued by Warner UK, especialy on their Right On! collections. In fact this set seems to have virtually cribbed tracklistings wholesale and just rearranged them in chronological order. Still, for new fans of the funky, it's worth a look as there is some amazing music here.
Sorry nothing short of five stars will do!!!
The previous reviewer is right to state that much of the music can be found on other compilations , but it's a great one-stop shop for those looking to dip their toes in some seriously brilliant soulful and funky tunes!! The music is nothing short of five stars throughout! It's a cracking comp, nice packaging too. Don't worry about buying with confidence.
Come get it! We got it! A bag full of funk!
I got quite a few funk compilations, but almost every track here was new to me.
It`s got grits and soul and nastiness, raw funk with backbone and big, fat horns.
This compilation covers a lot of ground; smokin' instrumentals, raw funk straight
from the James Brown bag, real nasty funk, R & B, jazz and souljazz.
Compared to some other funk compilations, the musicians on this one know the swing
of things, and don't let the funk loose in the wrong places.
The amount of real bad songs are next to none, but the amount of baaad funk is overwhelming.
This is an amazing collection of funk, 5 hours of groove, and the whole box-set is a
delicate piece of work.
You know when you see a thing for the first time, and you just KNOW that this is it?
Well, this is one of those things.
Go get it, they got it, a box full of funk!
