Amazing5
This is by far the most emotive performance I have ever seen from the Kings of prog metal. The audio and video quality is top notch, and the performance is magical, with James LaBrie's singing being the best that it ever has been. For me, the best song is easily Octavarium - the DVD would be worth buying even if that were the only thing on it.

The second disc documentary is also very interesting, although those with the 5 Years in a LIVETime DVD probably know the Dream Theater story already. The bonus performances of Another Day, The Great Debate and Honour Thy Father are of lesser quality (ie. I don't think the rim shots in The Great Debate have been picked up by the mic) as they seem to be taken from TV recordings but are still excellent songs worthy of the DVD.

Overall, a very moving stunning performance - one that you would come to expect from Dream Theater.

Fantastic performance5
Score is the latest edition to Dream Theater's saga. This live footage is taken from the last day of their Octavarium tour, comemorating Dream Theaters 20th anniversary. So naturally they had something special planned. They play the second half of the show with a full orchestra accomponiment. The band are all on top form and the orchestra really add the sound of the band.
The first half of the show is'nt half bad either. The first set is as follows:

1.Root of all Evil
2.I Walk Beside You
3.Another Won
4.Afterlife
5.Under A Glass Moon
6.Innocence Faded
7.Raise The Knife
8.The Spirit Carries On

The song "Another Won" is a song written from Dream Theater's eary days when they were known as "Majesty". "Raise The Knife" is a previously unreleased song written in their "falling into infinity" sessions. Every song on the first set is played brilliantly and tightly as is expected of such a talented band as Dream Theater.

The orchestra come out for the second set, which goes as follows:

1. Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
2. Vacant
3. The Answer Lies Within
4. Sacrificed Sons
6. Octavaruim
7. Metropolis

Not only do they play the 25 minute beast "Octavarium" but they also play all 42 minutes of the song "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" both of which sound fantastic with the orchestra.
But the highlight has to be the classic "Metropolis" which is played to perfection with orchestra making quite a difference.

This DVD is a must have for every Dream Theater fan and i reccomend it to all. Watching such incready talented musicians on their fiery top form playing a blinding set is really inspiring. Dream Theater are possibly the best band in the world, so but this DVD.

Brilliant, Just Brilliant5
This review is aimed at those people who do not know Dream Theater.

Try to imagine the following -
Start with a drummer playing a drum kit that would fill your living room, who is the most admired drummer amongst other drummers.
Add a bass player who plays a six string bass faster than most lead guitarists can play a Gibson Les Paul.
Throw in a keyboard player recently voted (by keyboard players) as the second best ever, beaten only by Kieth Emerson.
Find yourself a vocalist who can really belt it out but still manage to retain superb clarity.
Now get yourself a virtuoso guitarist who, in my opinion, beats Hendrix, Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen or any other you would like to mention.
Put them together in a room and get them to write the most complex and demanding rock music you are ever likely to hear, let them record a dozen or so albums and work together for 20 years to perfect their material. Now put them on stage with a full orchestra and let them rip. This is 'Score'.

The original recorded music is very impressive by itself but to see it performed live with a full orchestra lifts the whole experience to a new level. The sheer technical ability of these guys has to be seen to be believed. This is complex music played with laser precision.

The set list mainly covers their more recent material but with a few oldies thrown in as well as a couple of previously unreleased numbers.

I was initially surprised at the set list and could instantly think of four or five songs which I felt would be 'certs' for an album marking their 20th anniversary, for example, 'Pull Me Under' and 'Voices'. I guess the problem with a band with such a huge back catagolue covering 20 years is that any 'best of' album/DVD would easily run to 8 or 9 hours.
On the up-side you get Metropolis, Octavarium, and best of all, Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence in its entirety, that's all 42 minutes. I would buy this just for these three pieces and consider it a bargain.

In a nutshell, if your idea of music is something you put on as background whilst you do something else you are probably not going to like it. If, on the other hand you like your music to be more challenging than 12 bar blues in 4/4 time, with changes of time signature, key changes and lyrics that need attention and you are willing to actually sit and watch and listen you may well end up loving it.

To all those people who are already fans - why are you bothering to read this; you know you are going to buy it, so just do it !!
