DVD Description
It's the end of summer and Claire (Roberts) and Hailey (JoJo) have a major problem. In just five days, Hailey's family is moving halfway around the world! These girls need a major miracle, and they get one in the form of Aquamarine, a beautiful mermaid who washes ashore in a late summer storm. Sweet but clueless to the ways of romance, she offers to grant the girls one wish if they help her find the boy of her dreams. But when they attempt to reel in the cute local lifeguard, the result is something none of them expect and they discover that sometimes what you wish for isn't what you really want after all!

Synopsis
Based on the book by Alice Hoffman (PRACTICAL MAGIC), the refreshingly innocent AQUAMARINE follows two 13-year-old best friends through the last days of summer. Claire (Emma Roberts) and Hailey (Joanna 'JoJo' Levesque) are inseparable, sharing everything including a crush on lifeguard Raymond (Jake McDorman). But their days of carefree giggling will soon come to an end if they can't find a way to stop Hailey's imminent move to Australia. Unexpectedly coming to their rescue is Aquamarine (Sara Paxton), a mermaid who appears one day at the beach-club that Claire's grandparents own. Emerging from the pool with long blonde hair, eyeliner, and sass, the mermaid possesses everything Claire and Hailey lack--confidence, big breasts, and nail polish that changes colour with her mood. If the girls can get Aquamarine (whose fin transforms into long legs on land) used to life among humans and help her find true love, they may get their wish granted for Hailey to stay. Putting their personal feelings towards Raymond aside, the girls attempt to set him up with the mermaid despite interference by a villainous girl who wants Raymond for herself. When the girls aren't on the beach, they're shopping or having sleepovers in bedrooms covered with the marks of teen girlhood: pink bedspreads, pictures of celebrities, and an endless supply of teen magazines. The film's funniest moments come from the characters' attempts to not only master the magazine's many absurd prescribed techniques for getting boys' attention, but also from their having to teach a mermaid to do the same. While the film doesn't exactly argue with the messages spouted by publications like CosmoGirl, it brings them into question by highlighting just how centrally they factor into shaping the 'tween' generation. It also suggests true friendship may be more valuable than perfect looks or popularity.

Customer Reviews

Good, but not as good as other films..3
I decided to buy Aquamarine, as it stars Emma Roberts and Jojo and Sara Paxton - All of which, i like.

I started watching it and found it a bit boring, but when i continued watching it, it grabbed me into it a bit, at one point there is a cliffhanger, and i had to watch it to find out what happened!

But i was a bit dissapointed as Emma Roberts & Jojo didnt act aswell i thought they would do, but hey - there only young, i couldnt have done better.

I suppose this film is one to watch when you are bored on a sunday afternoon or a friend gathering.

I have seen better films that are like this, but at a fiver you might aswell give it a try :)

Hope this helps x

One for the girls rather than the guys2
I bought this in a double pack with Just my luck, I've seen that so decided that if this was any good then it would be a bonus, it's okay, but for me personally that's about it.

Sara Paxton as the mermaid was the only person to stand out for me, her 2 friends played by Emma Roberts and Jojo were okay.

There's not enough laughs to be had though to fill 96 minutes, there are some good bits and I like the idea as it's a bit different to the normal teenage films, plus there's a nice twist at the end of the film too, I'd say it's a film about friendship and trying to find a person who'll fall in love with you within a 3 day period, which happens to have a some laughs on the way as opposed to an out and out comedy.

Makes you feel 12 again!!5
This movie is unbelievably feel good, I believe females of any age could watch this and instantly go back to the feelings they had when they were around the 12-15 age group! Its bright, colourful, fun and you cannot help but laugh and cry at it!
The 3 lead characters played by JoJo, Emma Roberts and Sara Paxton are all wonderful, it was the first time I had seen any of them acting and JoJo in particular should definitely do some more comedy stuff in the future.
The music in the film is great, love the scene with Island In The Sun playing!
Any older people who love Splash should look away from the fact this is aimed at a young audience and give it a go, I guarantee it will make you smile.
