Customer Reviews
he's back
Bobby valentinos 2nd album is actually pretty good. A lot of rnb albums these days have a lot of filler and maybe 3 or 5 good tracks..actually the large majority of this is very good. Bobby has retained the highly underated production team of tim and bob but has also enlisted Timbaland, sean garratt and dre and vdal into the mix too. The single "Anonymous" prod by timbaland is good though not the best cut.
Great 2nd album..you could do worse than to buy this..much better than R Kellys new album
Distinctly Average
Well there has been massive hype for any black, male R&B artist in their 20s since Usher's Confessions. I can't help but feel that Usher's Confessions remains the benchmark for any R&B album from this group of artist. Sadly this album, for me, disappoints and fails to live up to its Special Occasion title and is downhill from its ANONYMOUS lead single. Do not buy this album if you are hoping for a collection of Timbaland amazing cuts. This album, like Omarion's 21, proves that Timbaland turns distinctly average artists into heavy radio rotation hits. I would advise buying a mixed R&B Urban album for the ANONYMOUS / ICEBOX kind of sound. This album is not progressive and is not pushing the genre. I would strongly recommend buying other albums such as Joe's Aint Nothin Like Me instead from a veteran.
The bravado on this album is incredible, and largely, I believe undeserved. The best example is the Special Occasion Interlude -- I cannot believe that women are lining up desperate to see Bobby Valentino and this kind of arrogance is what is drowning the genre. It is unnecessary and undeserved from an artist only two albums in. I may also just have an irrational disbelieve for people who like to refer to themselves in the third person throughout their entire album.
I would not buy this album and could not recommend it less. I think that there are lots of other R&B albums out there at the moment which fall into this category (such as 21 from Omarion). Similarly, there are lots of quality R&B albums out there at the moment as well which should earn far greater airplay such as Joe's aforementioned album. All in all, this album proves what accomplishments CONFESSIONS really was and maybe we should just wait for Usher to return.
