Editorial Reviews

CD Description
On the double-disc concert album OKONOKOS, My Morning Jacket harnesses its considerable live energy into an impressive set. Drawing primarily from IT STILL MOVES and Z, the 2006 release features a few of the Louisville, Kentucky-based act's quieter tunes ("I Will Sing You Songs", "Golden"), but focuses primarily on gloriously rocked-out performances, including the surging shoegazer "Gideon" and the searing "One Big Holiday", which conjures up thoughts of the Allman Brothers Band and Mogwai in an on-stage choogle session. While many live records call attention to weaknesses in an ensemble's sound, OKONOKOS plays to MMJ's strengths (particularly frontman Jim James and guitarist Carl Bromel's bold, up-front six-string work), proving that the group is an arena-rock band inthe best possible sense.

Customer Reviews

terrific live album from a great band5
I was alerted to My Morning Jacket by Uncut magazine and bought their current studio album 'Z' on that recommendation. It's great but this live album is even better and deserves to get the band the attention they surely deserve.

Right from the first play I was inspired by the passion of the performances by the band and the quality of the songwriting. The first CD kicks off with tracks from 'Z' , with 'Gideon' standing out even more than the others. The mix of the more mellow recent songs and the guitar driven older tunes is great with the melodies shining through and giving loads of opportunity to sing along .

Buy it -you won't regret it !!

Superb Live Album5
The last 2 studio albums of MMJ were excellent and I had heard good things about their live performances. After listening to this I can only agree. Few live albums improve upon the 'studio' versions but this one sure does.
Catches all the excitement of a band running on full steam and is a good intro into the band.
They played a few UK dates recently and I missed their show at Birmingham which really peeved me off when I heard this CD. Imagine my delight when I later found out that this gig had been cancelled! Come back to Brum soon.

great studio sound greater live5
those acquainted with my morning jacket will already know they are one of the best bands on the planet, this assured live outing confirms their status and is tiptop in every sense, lush vocals , superb geetar/muso freakouts and rammed with many of their catchier songs. The unitiated should begin here and scour the back catalogue, if this great band doesnt rock ur world then u may need to see the rocknroll doctor, ace, fantastic, lovely, super, brilliant, buy it
