Splendid collection
This is a marvellous collection of various tracks recorded by John Martyn for the BBC. It is mostly Peel sessions from the 1970's.
This is better than most "sessions" albums in that John is so experimental and rarely played a track the same way twice.
Thus, although "May You Never" appears twice, both versions are great in different ways, and neither is a carbon copy of the original track from Solid Air.
There are also immense versions of "I'd Rather Be the Devil" (for some reason called "Devil Get My Woman" here) and "Small Hours"
This is an album which will delight Martyn fans. It's also not a bad place to start if you just want to sample him.
I'd better check out the "Live at the BBC" DVD now
In Heaven, In Session
A refreshing release with some superbly recorded awesome performances from Martyn - I keep playing this release over and over again! John Martyn at his best. Far superior to recent live offerrings of inferior quality recordiings! The only slightly disappointing aspect is the rather poor artwork. The recent BBC Radio Live In Concert 2CD is in a similar vein but with far more interesting artwork. Well worth getting both releases!
John Martyn Acoustic Sessions at the BEEB
This is so good words aren't enough. Spanning live sessions of tracks from the albums Solid Air, Inside Out, Sunday's Child & One world (buy any one of these and you won't be disappointed) this is a welcome release and a must-have cd. For my money the versions of Beverly/Make No Mistake, Spencer The Rover & Small Hours are worth the purchase alone. The production is good & sound quality is great throughout. If you're already a JM fan, buy this cd now; if you're thinking of dipping your toes (or ears) into the wonderful music of john Martyn, why not start here?
Give your ears a treat & buy it now.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would; but I can't, so 5 it has to be.
