very easy to use
do not agree with previous reviewer - i'm no expert at computers, but this was very simple indeed to set up. pop in the CD and it walks you through set up in less than 20 mins. no need to call india.
it took a bit longer to work out how to share files/printers between PCs, but this is no different whichever router you use, and you can't blame the manufacturer/hardware for that. it's a windows issue.
range is amazing over a large 4 storey house with very thick walls. very quick transfer of data, and no drifting in and out of signal. allows connection between PCs on XP and vista.
very happy with it
What a relief - a router that really works!
Who knows whether I'm typical but so far in the evolution of wifi in my house we have gone through a Dell 1520 (OK, slow, 802.11b) then on to a much-hyped Belkin F5D9230 G+MIMO job (utterly, utterly unreliable, unsupported, nearly caused an embolism every time it had spontaneous spasm.
So in total frustration I took a good look at the market and bought this.
I'm jolly pleased I did. It worked straight out of the box months ago and it has never once needed restarting - a total success in my book. Rock solid performance, reasonable range, good rane of encryption, all the options you might need for a medium size domestic network. BTW it's a good idea to disable the ICMP response - it is enabled in the default settings. And do please change the network name, change the login and password and encryption, like they tell you to. You'll be pleased you did one day!
The only 2 downsides:
1 - can't seem to exploit the 108M capability with full encryption - after a little fiddling came to the conclusion that the problem was probably at the client end. But 54M is enough for me at present, so no worries.
2 - documentation is a bit on the light side - I guess it might be a bit of a challenge for someone who had not been forced to learn about routers the hard way like I have!
Disappointing Range
I bought this item after researching several based upon reviews on Amazon. Having only previously used an ad-hoc network to connect my laptop, I suddenly found that I didn't have a clue how to set up a wireless network and it all became trial and error.
Setting the Netgear up was no problem at all. Insert the CD and follow the instructions, 20 mins later - done.
I was expecting to have a strong signal throughout the house, but this has not been the case and on several occasions I've had to move the laptop to the kitchen to connect and then move elsewhere to use it.
Easy set up is one thing but there do appear to be range issues with this device
