Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
Spyro the Dragon returns in a reboot to the series that finally explains his origins and aims to return him to the top flight of platforming gaming mascots.
The lowdown:
Alongside Crash Bandicoot the original Spyro the Dragon games were the PSone’s best two exclusive platformers, but just like Crash they’ve long lost their way. This might be called A New Beginning but it’s disarmingly similar to the last game and features precious little in the way of new ideas. Although he does sport a requisite pair of leathery wings, Spyro can’t actually fly, just glide for short periods, which allows the game to include lots of platforming sections. The real emphasis is on combat though, which is a bit of a shame as it quickly gets repetitive with few moves and little variety in enemies. It’s a competent enough game but it’s really got nothing new to add to either the Spyro series or action adventure games in general.
Most exciting moment:
The best part of the game is the way Spyro’s powers can slowly be upgraded, particularly his four flavoured dragon’s breath which switches between the elemental powers of fire, ice, wind and earth. Not only do many of the puzzles revolve around their use but some enemies are vulnerable to specific types.
Since you ask:
Oddly the game has quite the celebrity line-up in its voice cast, including Elijah Woods (The Lord of the Rings) and Gary Oldman (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), but their talents are largely wasted on a bland script and trite dialogue.
The bottom line:
Not the revamp the series needed to regain its previous glories.-HARRISON DENT

Spyro - Great game but short...
This game is amazing! The graphics are the Best and the adventure really is fun! Love the short movies between loadings and the Boss fights are really really good - it's all in mid-air and you must use the stylus to attack. If you like Spyro and adventure games, I higly reccomend this one. The only thing against it is that it's too short! I finished it in 2 days! But what fun I had! :-)
Stick with the PS1 Spyro that we know and love
As a kid, Spyro was my favourite game on the playstation. After reading all the bad reviews I decided to give the 'new' Spyro a chance. The main problem I had with the game was the length. You're left thinking, 'was that it?' I personally take ages to finish games yet was able to finish this in under a day.
The game is also quite repetitive, you fight endless enemies, then fight a boss, then you save a dragon...that's it. Each level is practically the same, with the only decent variation being the various breaths.
Many new attacks are introduced throughout the game and, whilst being pretty cool once you get the hang of them, are quite unnecessary. You can easily complete the game using the same 2 or 3 attacks.
On the positive side, the graphics are cool and the idea of introducing new ice, electric and earth attacks is an interesting twist. Sadly, it's not enough and if you're a Spyro fan, you're not missing much with this game.
All in all, if you've never played a Spyro game before, I suggest one of the originals- so much more fun!
all fighting?
this game is not what i expected from a ds spyro
as a child i loved the spyro games but this is all about the fighting with nothing else to drive it forward
i lost interest very quickly
