Editorial Reviews

From the Label
The US * * * N U M B E R 1 * * * album ! ! ! ! EMI Records is proud to present the debut solo album by US R&B star LeToya. As an original member of Destiny’s Child, LeToya co-wrote the group’s signature songs "Bills Bills Bills" and "Say My Name". Now, with her self-titled solo album, the powerful singer wants millions of her fans to be saying her name all over again. That’s why after a few years away from the music industry spotlight, the singer felt that naming her album "LeToya" would be the best way to reintroduce herself. LeToya Luckett met Beyonce Knowles in elementary school back in their native Houston and together they became the integral members of the original Destiny’s Child, writing many of the group’s earliest hits together. LeToya was in Destiny’s Child for seven years as they broke through to become one of the biggest acts on the planet with their second album "The Writing’s On The Wall", which sold over 1 million copies in the UK, became certified eight-times platinum in the US and chalked up over 12 million sales around the world.

Destiny's 4th Solo Child4
Ya'll all know the story: LeToya is original DC member...then group changes line-up....then LeToya n LaTavia sue DC...blah blah blah. As a HUGE DC fan, i got all the albums n all da solo albums..."LeToya" certainly meets da standard. Ms Luckett was last heard on DC's classic "THE WRITING'S ON THE WALL"...and "LETOYA" seems to continue the sounds and vibes of the DC record. This is pure RnB. Most of the tracks are memorable after just one listen and im not sure what it is but something about this record makes it stand out from the average female RnB album (ie Cassie, Rihanna, Ciara...etc).

You Got What I Need was the first thing from this joint- though never a single.
Torn is the official debut single n man, this is perfect RnB! definate choice 4the first single.
She Don't is da second single...another great track, though not that different from Torn.

There is a real mix of cuts here, and a good few single choices. i would def reccomend this album- PURE RnB from an exciting artist wit already a history and story.

What am album!!!5
Letoya frankly is a leading RnB Sola artist out their right now!! Even thou she has just come back from long days out, she has come back with a bang!! I have heard both B-Day and Letoya and if i have to be honest, Letoya is a better album than B-day. Letoya has got a better viba and is kept real throughout showing her true potential as an artist. Beyonces album i sno where close to her frirst album. It was clearly rushed and there is a rumour saying that she wanted to kill Letoya's sales when her album dropped.. Clearly she failed in that as Letoya reached number 1 straight away. ;-)
Letoya is sexy, intelligeny clearly from her tracks written and very much right to come out as a solo artist. She has had a fantastic start. Hopefully she can make herself bigger than beyonce one day!!
Favourite traks are:
This Song 10/10
She don't 9/10
Gangsta Grills 10/10
So Special 8/10
The rest are good also and i give the rest 7/10...

Fresh Surprise!4
I finally cpped this album and boi, I was surprised. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting but it was good. I knew Letoya had skill from DC days so it was really good to see how she managed recording a solo album.

1) Intro- 3/5 random but repping H-Town to fullest and inviting you to her world!?!?!
2) U Got What I Need- 4/5- BIG TUNE! Uses the old skool sample well with crisp prodution from Just Blaze and alright vocals.

3) So Special- 4/5- Good song that makes you wanna bob yo' head. Another Ladies anthem urging us not to take any mess from our man, lyrically good.

4)Torn 4/5- I dont like this song personally buy It is still a good tune, respect her for releaseing this as her debut than some "finger snappy do it to it, lean wit it" nonsense. Good clear pruduction and good use of a classic Diana & Marvin song

5) What Love Can Do- 4/5- TUNE!! Another LADIEZ tune but real lyrics and heave production.

6)She Don't- 2/5- Not sure why she is releasing this dry tune! The video aint good at all either.

7) Tear da Club Up- 3/5- would get a higher rating if not for that DRY rapper Bun-B who cant rap to save his diamond grillz!!! Good weekend tune tho coz the beat is bangin'

8) All Eyes On Me- 4/5- Much better with Paul Wall on Rap who is one of the better Houston rappers. I wanted her to realise this tune first coz the beat is FYA!

9) Hey Fella- 3/5- Another rubbish southern rapper this time its Slim Thug. Without the rap this is a really good song and would listed to it more often if not for the rapping.

10) Gangsta Grillz- 3/5 Mike Jones is SWAG! RUBBISH! WACK! Another good tune wasted by a rubbish rapper. She talking about the mans in Houston so you know what to expect

11) Obvious- 5/5- Best tune on the album, shows us her vocals and a nice honest slow jam.

12) I'm Good- 4/5- This is BIG tune!

13) This Song- 3/5- Attempting to be a bedroom song but didnt make it and it dont help that annoying munchkin Jermaine Dupri insists on us hearing his voice. The prodution is aaight tho, it just needed alit bit of Babyface to make it into a real sexy song.

14) Outro- 4/5- She should have made this into a song, her vioce sounds beautifull. Samples a Yolanda Adams song and basically thanks her peeps.

This was a good album but it shows that Letoya can sing but not THAT well compared to the other two in DC, strong debut otherwise!! Kelly it's your turn next sine Beyonce flopped.

THIS IS A MCUH BETTER ALBUM THAN B-DAY!!!
