Product Description

The queen of UK RnB follows 2004's top 5 smash 'Thank You' with this third studio album, which sees her bringing a harder edge to her sound. The album is fuelled by a series of frenetic, dancefloor-ready belters including a co-write with hip hop legend Afrika Bambaataa, but Jamelia does not neglecther soulful R&B roots. The result is a varied, fully realized album which many are calling her finest work to date. Includes the single 'Something About You'.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Three albums in, and Jamelia - the Birmingham schoolgirl who signed to Parlophone Records at the age of 15 - is already showing a pretty impressive longevity in the notoriously fickle UK pop marketplace. But whereas her first two albums, Grace and Superstar, seeked to paint Jamelia as a UK ghetto diva of the Beyoncé/Destiny's Child school, Walk With Me feels like a conscious step outside r'n'b's comparatively narrow genre constraints.

It's not always terribly ingenious - take lead-off single "Something About You" - a rather transparent stab at a Pink/Avril-style rocker, boasting a chorus drenched in fuzzy guitar and rock drums. But there are some interesting experiments here. "Do Me Right", produced by electro legend Afrika Bambaataa, whips up a sitar-laden breaks beast curiously reminiscent of a slightly more pop incarnation of the Chemical Brothers. And the funky, New York-flavoured "Hustle" features a surprise cameo from the very English rapper Sway. Meanwhile, it's been a couple of years since the "mash-up" was an access-all-areas pass to the pop cutting-edge, but a pair of tracks - "No More, which samples "Golden Brown" by The Stranglers; and "Beware Of The Dog", a cheeky rework of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" - enact enjoyable smash-and-grabs on pop culture past.--Louis Pattison

Thankyou - the album? Hmmmm. Not really. It was such an obvious route for Jamelia as her look is so the new face of British R'n'B. But why waste that voice and beautiful face on bland, faux agressive music? That was why I held back listening to this album, however, at £4, I couldn't really say "no".

I'd heard "Something About You" and didn't really rate it and was marginally impressed by "Beware of the Dog". But once I'd listened to the album the whole way through I was really surprised at how Jamelia has grown up, shed the typecast and produced mature, solid silver pop without, it seems, really making much effort. EVERY song is different, each a little pop nugget of its own. Here comes the breakdown:

1. Something About You: Wasn't sure at first but, obviously with the high profile commercial production behind it, it was bound to be released first. It is a slick, underrated song but, unfortunately was released too early. This was never going to draw the hoards in. 8.5/10

2. Do Me Right: Excellent, dirty, rough bangra with shouty Afrika shouting all over it. The kind of R'n'B pop that Jamelia was supposed to make! 10/10

3. Window Shopping: The melody doesn't, unfortunately, eclipse the inspired sample of Are You Being Served? Its still a good hip shaker but pales a little behind Do Me Right. 8/10

4. Know My Name: Great! Love the sweet singing and the chav wiv attitude speaking. The electric R'n'B backing gives it spice where this tune could well have fallen flat. 9/10

5. No More: Utterly beautiful. A real tribute and re imagining of Golden Brown. I absolutely love this song and the use of the sample is genius! 10/10

6. Aint a Love: Not the best track, still pretty good with a sense of Jades: Don't Walk Away behind it. Gets better with each listen but the chorus doesn't pack the punch that it could have. 7/10

7. La La Love: This was my least favourite at first but, actually, I bet this song took time to write as the melody is quite intricate. Its actually a very beautiful song that I fully appreciate now but the production wavers a little on this track. 9/10

8. Go: A beautiful bluesy style track. A modern classic with Jamelias voice breaking at the climax. Sung from the heart and with passion. 9.5/10

9. Get Up, Get Out: Language! Brilliant. The juxtaposition of a sweet melody with Jamelia's potty mouth work wonders. God bless her for taking a risk! 10/10

10. Beware of the Dog: Excellent, excellent! A real filthy, agressive tune. The sample is great and Jamelia seems completely natural in a dominatrix role. 10/10

11. Got it so Good: Not the best on the album. Great lyrics, inspiring message but the melody doesn't quite eleviate as much as it could. 7/10

12. Hustle: Fantastic. Groovy, funky and with a rap that complements it perfectly, you wish the album would never finish. 10/10

Jamelia, sod the poor record sales, keep up the good work!!

Serious Brit Soul Gem!5
This is the first time I have bought a Jamelia album;(I did actually purchase the single,D.J. for the fab cover of Sam Brown's Stop on track two),and must admit that the special offer price of £3.97 in Tesco helped my decision enormously!

So,after I had completed my shopping and put on my seatbelt,I whacked this in the car sterec and was very pleasantly surprised!

I have to say this is a superb album, standout tracks being No More(sampling Stranglers classic,'Golden Brown'),Beware Of The Dog(strong, sassy, sampling 'Personal Jesus'),the sexy Ain't A Love and the absolutely superbly uplifting Got It So Good!

I only had moderate hopes for this album, but it has blown me away, and is a darn sight better than many american divas!

A bargain then for £3.97,but equally worth the purchase at full price!

Really,really good!
