Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
With three decades of acclaimed songwriting behind him, former Jam frontman Paul Weller knows a thing or two about knocking up a catchy tune. It may come as a surprise, but Hit Parade is Weller's first major career retrospective, combining material from his Jam and Style Council days, as well as from his last 15 or so years as a solo artist. Released to coincide with a high-profile full-length BBC documentary, Hit Parade features his biggest hits. Seminal Jam anthems such as "Town Called Malice", "Going Underground", "Eton Rifles" and "Down In The Tube Station", sit surprisingly well next to Style Council selections like "Shout To The Top!" and "You're The Best Thing", connected of course via Weller's distinctive, raw vocals and his dual passion for soul and rock. Not all of his solo albums are represented, but most of his best loved records are here; "Wild Wood" and "Sunflower" (from Wild Wood), as well as songs from Stanley Road and 2005's As Is Now. It's a compelling profile of a man whose unique sound has proved not only thoroughly consistent, but also impressively enduring. --Paul Sullivan

Perfect anthology for the Changing Man5
If you're looking for a neat synopsis of Paul Weller's work you should definitely check this out.

This collection is great to use if you're looking for a particular track or period of his expansive career but working through the tracks is perhaps the best way to see how his work has developed over the decades.

His talent, & this collection, go deeper than the hits - if you're not too familiar with his work, this is pretty much essential listening; if you're already a fan, this is a "must have"!

Just fantastic.

Nice idea...shame about the sound quality3
It's great to have a collection of Paul Weller's hits from the various stages of his career. However, with regard to the early stuff with The Jam, this DVD collection hardly does the great man justice. The sound quality on all but a few of the Jam tracks is simply awful. 5.1 surround sound boasts the packaging, but some of these tracks are not even in stereo! The worst offender is 'News Of The World' - the band are clearly miming to the recorded version so why does this sound like a tenth generation cassette copy?!! I can cope with slightly less than 100% sound quality on the rare TV appearances included where the band are either playing live or miming to a pre-recorded special version (as in a lot of Top Of The Pops appearances) but there is simply no excuse for the pitiful quality for most of these Jam tracks.
Things improve for the Style Council tracks, although some of these are hardly genuine 5.1 mixes as advertised.
On a happier note, the solo tracks are well presented.
Buyers beware....this is not the definitive tribute to one of our greatest ever songwriters.

The ModFather Rules5
Ordered this on Monday received by Wednesday, superb service by anyones standards.

A real Christmas bargain!!

Even if you're only a fan of one of the Paul Weller phases (The Jam, The Style Council or Paul's solo stuff) I implore you to buy this and beleive me you will not be disappointed.
