Editorial Reviews
Amazon.co.uk Review:
In a nutshell:
The third Guild Wars campaign is the most sociable of all, in terms of other meeting other people in the massively multiplayer online world and getting help from new virtual heroes.
The lowdown:
Dubbed the world’s first co-operative online role-playing game (or competitive, depending on your temperament), Guild Wars manages to distinguish itself from the crowd by moving the focus away from constantly levelling up and focusing it squarely on combat between and against players. This third game in the series is set on the new continent of Elona and features two new classes of character to play as: the long range Paragon and the magical Dervish. Twenty new missions and hundreds of quests are included, in what is more than just an expansion pack even if it’s not quite a new game.
Most exciting moment:
The best new element of the game is certainly the new hero characters who you can recruit to join your cause. Unlike the previous nondescript henchmen these are fully customisable in terms of skills and equipment and you can even set them fighting against each other, in special hero vs. hero areas of the game.
Since you ask:
Guild Wars is one of the very few commercially available massively multiplayer online role-playing games not to require a monthly subscription fee. Instead, after you’ve bought the game itself, it’s free to play and publisher NCsoft gets its additional revenues through advertising instead.
The bottom line:
A welcome evolution of one of the most unique online games around.-HARRISON DENT

The best and most accessible cooperative RPG around

My second GW outing...
Having played Prophecies since the beta version and having missed out on Factions until recently, I decided that I needed to get Nightfall to keep up with the fast paced PvP (player versus player) aspect of Guild Wars.
Of course, this isn't to say new players won't enjoy this as an introduction into the GW universe either. This campaign in particular has some very powerful skills for the 'old' proffesions, as well as introucing the powerful new Dervish and Paragon classes (and as any serious PvP player will tell you, these have completely changed the face of PvP, especially the Dervish).
If you're looking to buy the game for it's campaign, then be prepared to come up against a fairly difficult 'starter period' for beginners (compared to that of Prophecies and Factions anyway). Throughout the game, you have the ability to buy yourself armour, weapons and skills, all of which are then unlocked for the PvP aspect.
Overall, for new players I would reccomend looking into the series' first installment rather than this outing, which I and many others believe to be the best. Anyone thinking about buying this to add to an existing account would do well to bring an Ele =).
Nightfall Heroes
I have all 3 games this one being the last one I bought, was going to buy the normal version till found collectors ed on here for same price!! Saving between £30 and £45 bargin!! Nightfall is great as it allows you to have heroes which you can customise and micro control if you wish. This is way better than the regular henchmen as you can give them any skills you have for that profession as well as pets.I generally find that pets can be helpfull and get comments on my "Zoo". All the extras with Nightfall coll ed are useful especially the map, minipet cool as well. Nightfall is my second favorite as Proph is always going to be fave. If you have the other campaigns then once you have unlocked travel they can help you in those worlds. That comes in very useful and in a lot of cases means you don't have to rely on others!!. Worth buying just for the heroes plus is a good game on its own. If thinking of choosing between Factions/Nightfall go with Nightfall!!
Best Addition To Guild Wars So Far
I'm a fanatic Guild Wars (GW) player. Having played through Prophecies and Factions and now digging into Nightfall, I can say that this latest addition is better than Factions and I'm already in love with it. Although I've been playing it for only two weeks.
Anyone already familiar with GW will know that the gameplay is the same for all extentions, so I'll not go into this matter as it has been reviewed many times. To the new players, see the two previous chapters for review about gameplay.
Now a word about Nightfall: the leveling up system is not that drastic as in Factions; you'll be able to level up your character but it will take longer than it did in Factions.
Instead of taking henchmen who do not evolve through the game, you now have access to heroes that will evolve! Also you can adjust their skills, armour and weapons, giving you a party that's tuned for your needs. The only negative arguement about this, is that you'll be playing on your own instead of teaming up with other players. Which, according to me, is the main reason to play an on-line game.
The enemies are tough but not impossible to beat, just about right. They also became more intellegent; they run away in dangerous situations, they dispel enchantment you have on yourself and use their abilities more often.
Another treat you get if you buy the collectors edition is that you get a miniature pet (which contributes nothing to combat, but is nice to have), you get a box with 2 extra CD's (a music CD and a documentary), a very good artbook and some other minor stuff. The in-game difference is that your dance is completly different from the other dances. For those you don't know what i'm talking about, your character can do certain things in-game like playing music, dancing, jumping...etc while waiting for other players to join.
I highly recommend this addition which has kept me again hooked to my PC.
