Super sound, Super vision - At last a Chris Rea Live DVD 5
I've been waiting for this since I first saw CR live in 1986 - something that I can saviour after the concert. In my opinion, Chris is the best slide guitarist and songwriter in the business - and runs a very tight band which you can see on this near-perfect performance. Who else can switch from love songs to pure blues rock at the switch of guitar? I was fortunate enough to attend this concert live and the sound and vision on this DVD capture the night's performance perfectly - True, 100% faithful CR. - My only criticsm is the poor editing of The Road to Hell - where the sound and vision at times are completely out of synch. Never mind though, here we have something we can remember Chris Rea by, before he moves on with the Memphis Fireflies - Buy it, savour it, share it, and turn it up!

Amazing DVD5
I have never seen Chris Rea live because I live in Western Canada. This is purely my loss.

I watched this DVD last night and was blown away. I have been a CR fan since the early 80's and really like his music. His new direction took a while for me to get used to, but now I can't get enough of it.

The sound on this DVD is perfect. The performance is bare, stripped down and, in my mind, is all about the music and his (and the band's) talent.

All the songs are great. But he really comes thru best on the newer material. The exception is "I can hear your heartbeat". That song is just amazing. It changes directions so many times, it's fabulous.

I felt much of Chris's pain during Stony Road. As an almost life-long type 1 diabetic with some serious complications, I know much of what he lives with on a day-to-day basis. The lyric in that song is so personal to me, it gives me goose-bumps.

Thanks Chris for helping me and my wife "laugh thru the pain". I know it is very unlikely, but maybe someday I will get to see you out here in Vancouver.

A Glorious Swansong5
Recorded at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, the DVD captures a brilliant performance on Chris Rea's farewell tour set. To the the delight of fans present on the night, Rea delivers a balanced set of his greatest hits (Road to Hell parts 1 & 2, Stainsby Girls etc) along with selections from his more recent blues/jazz/roots orientated releases. The hits work because they are presented in a stripped back, simplified way that represents more closely how they were original conceived and written (as Rea says in the accompanying documentary DVD - all his songs start out as blues songs). The recent cuts benefit from the live renditions, delivered as they are by a collection of rather excellent musicians who have worked with Rea for quite a long time.
