Synopsis
With breathtaking cinematography and state-of-the-art visual effects Galapagos takes you to the islands that changed the world. Sitting at a confluence of four major ocean currents, the islands are actually the summits of vast undersea volcanoes, and are steadily on the march. How has such an odd assortment of life managed to find a footing in this unruly world? Micro-climates and altitude have combined to form discrete environmental zones: perfect habitats for the islands' diverse fauna - marine iguanas, petrels, blue-footed boobies and giant tortoises being but a famous few.

Galapagos is a rare insight into an incredible landscape, a natural laboratory and an exquisite evolutionary habitat that Darwin described as a 'world within itself'. Witness the volcanic eruption that leads to an island’s creation, right through to its ultimate demise. Galapagos is an Earth-shattering experience that must be seen to be believed.

Customer Reviews

Superb camera work, great story 5
This series used spectacular Hi-Definition cinematography from land, sea and air, and blended dramatic landscapes with intimate animal behaviour, drama reconstruction and stunning satellite imagery.

This is a stunning BBC documentary - if you like BBC wildlife stuff then this is for you. The islands are like nowhere on earth - hence the documentary.

All the usual BBC values are present so buy with confidence.

Excellent preparatory DVD for a trip to the Galapagos...5
This BBC documentary is a must for anyone interested in wildlife and the Galapagos. I used it to help prepare myself for a visitor to the islands and now I watch it to remind myself of the wonderful sights I saw while I was there. It is fully up to the very high standards that you would expect from a BBC production and I highly recommend it. Enjoy!

Great Companion for around the Islands cruise4
This book provides a good general overview of the wildlife you will see in the Galapagos. It is very useful in having a shoreline and underwater section to help identify some of the fish you may see.
It is not recommended for the keen birder as it's not a field guide. The excellent feature which should appeal to people on week long cruises is the section on Island Landings and Visitor Sites. This gives a good appreciation of what to expect on each island.
