Amazon.co.uk Review
Unquestionably one of rock’s greatest vocalists, Rod Stewart should have titled this album Great Rock Classics of My Time. Most of these Top 40 tunes and others like Dylan's "If Not for You" were popularized in the early to mid-'70s, when Stewart was entering his rock prime. He's perfect to croon Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," soulfully pained on Bonnie Tyler's "It's a Heartache," and right in the pocket on the Pretenders' "I'll Stand by You." And his unmistakable raspiness puts another layer of wisdom on the old Cat Steven's classic "Father & Son." But you also have to wonder about some of the safe song choices, such Badfinger's "Day After Day" and Nazareth's "Love Hurts." Why he continues to record mossy cover songs is a legitimate question. What's stopping him from getting back in trenches with some contemporary rock songwriters and really reinventing himself? The karaoke lounge is no place for a guy this great to hang. --Martin Keller
Customer Reviews
American song book this is not, Thank god ! its rocks.
I was never a fan of the great american song books series he did, helps that im english, but i found them old and boring. I grew up with rod and rock with his fantastic vocals. He gets back to what he does best here, and i have to say love it. I would of given it 5 stars if he included some oring material aswell as covers. 'It's A Heartache' should be a single, great version he does, highlight for me.
Rod Stewart Album is Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!
These arrangements are FANTASTIC this is without a doubt an amazing album. Highly recommended.
The gravelly voice gets better with age. Like a fine wine Rod is best taken older.
Make your own mind up
I had read mixed reviews of this album but decided to make my own mind up about it
I would criticise the title as it probably is a little misleading, although it does have some great songs on it , many of which are favourites of mine
This is quite a laid back album that purrs along really well without trying too hard
Perhaps the arrangements could have been a little more edgy but everyone who has heard me play it so far has really liked it and gone off to buy it!
This is probably the best recommendation an album can receive
I think the vocals are great and I hope there are further volumes of songs like this to come
Ignore the harsh comments and make your own mind up!
