Does what it says on the tin5
I was dumb enough to purchase this from a high street retailer paying a £30 premium but anyway.
Do you like electronics items that feel well built? If so this item will give you confidence, even though its not very heavy. This to me is an important aspect as i keep mine with my laptop and as anyone else who carries a laptop a lot will know, grammes count. The case is gloss black, very pleasing on the eye, especially during presentations as 'looks' count.
My laptop doesn't have the best battery life (2hrs max) and whilst i did see a drop using the W.D it wasn't that much (tested by filling the drive with various things in a continous copy) so i was pleasantly surprised.
It's not very loud, doesn't get very warm, comes with back-up software (dead easy to use), powered from a USB port. Simple.
It's basically just a laptop hard drive put in an enclosure, but it's made by a well known company in the hdd market, it looks very nice, isn't intrusive when working, has a nice capacity (when empty i get 54gb) and is cheap (online anyway...). Granted, the 120gb version is only slightly more but its heavier (twin platters) and will no doubt be warmer when working.
If you just want a cheap hdd to carry your music, maybe some movies, that doesnt come with any power cables/adaptor and looks good but doesn't cost the earth then go for this. Just don't buy from the hight street.
    Heartily recommended.

    Good Value Drive5
I bought this drive partly because WD is a major player with a good reputation. The drive is definitely plug and play, as they say.
The internet site for the WD Sync software [...] was not obtainable, that's the only problem at the minute. (Anyone else had this problem?)
The unit is not heavy, quiet when running and seems to copy across at an acceptable speed. The size of the unit means it can be carried in a jacket or coat pocket without being a nuisance.

The unit is supplied without a case or bag which is needed as the USB cable is separate from the unit. I hope I have not drop tested the drive before I find a suitable cover.

The 60GB will be large enough for most people. Hope this helps anyone considering a purchase.

    Exactly what is needed5
I hesitated before buying this WD portable hard-drive: why? Mainly because at the time I could find no reviews of this particular product and - importantly - the product description makes no mention of synchronisation software which was primary for me. So I spent some time looking around and tracking this model on various sites. YES - it does have in-built synchronisation software which was the tipping-point for buying this eventually. And, lets face it, it is one of the best looking models around. Gloss black case is very impressive; very low running noise and so far little heat. Just plug in and the software takes you easily through the set-up. No joke, a beginner could plug this in and be set up within minutes. Very light and can be carried in the pocket - and has the WD brand that is strong in this market - I have looked around for weeks!

And at the Amazon price it is the one of the more competetive models - it is worth the price. Go for higher storage if you really need it, yet for most users I would think 60GB does the job. I use it for synchronising my work and - importantly - to have an extra storage space in case of computer failure. Very sleek product with good in-built and online support.
